As I wished, the end of the day came soon enough. I walked quickly to my locker, grabbing everything from it, and shoving it in my backpack. The exit was on the other side of the school, so I had to run to make sure I caught the bus in time. Not looking where I was running, I ran straight into Liam. He fell from the impact, and I fell right on top of him.
"In a rush to get somewhere Coeher?" he laughed.
"Just trying to catch the bus," I replied, giggling.
I stood up off of him and offered my hand to help him up. He grabbed it and I felt him shock me. Looking at his eyes, I could have sworn they turned a bright yellow before going back to blue. He looked away quickly and withdrew his hand.
"Liam, are you okay?" I asked concerned.
"I'm perfect. Hey, do you want to sit with me on the bus?" he questioned, changing the subject.
"Oh, uh, sure." I smiled.
He walked beside me all the way to the bus but had his nose buried in his phone. Almost everyone in his friend group did all day. It was really confusing me but I wasn't really concerned about it anymore.
We sat in the back of the bus, two seats up from the entrance. After about five minutes, Liam looked up at me.
"Hey, a bunch of us are going to hang out tonight. You wanna come?"
"Where at?"
"Most likely it will be at Scott's house. But we might go up to Lydia's lake house."
"Wait.....Lydia has a lake house?!"
"Technically it's her mom's, but yeah."
"Oh cool."
"So can you come?"
"Sure, why not."
Liam smiled at my response and leaned back in his seat.
"I can pick you up if you want." He offered.
"That would be great!" My address is 74 Arbor Hill Lane." I told him as he typed it into his phone.
"Great! I'll pick you up at six-thirty."
Just as he told me what time he would pick me up, the bus came to a halt at my stop.
"Bye Liam." I waved to him.
"Bye Amber. See you tonight." He waved back.
I ran straight to my house and ripped open the front door. Walking in, I realized that it was as dark as it was this morning. My head turned to the side and I saw James still sitting on the couch, this time reading a newspaper. Before he had time to notice me, I dashed up the stairs to my room. Quickly, I shut the door and locked it. Once I made sure there was no way James could bother me, I lie down on my bed and let out a breath I did not even know I was holding.
The outfit I had on from school seemed okay, but my hair was starting to lose its curl. Slowly, I got up and made my way to the makeup bureau. I reheated my wand and lightly curled a few pieces.
Me being me, I actually wanted to do my homework. None of my teachers wanted to give me homework on my first day here, but I insisted that my biology teacher give me something. Quickly, I finished the sheet she gave me and went back to laying down. It was only three-thirty, so I decided to take a two hour nap. By that time I should be able to eat something small before Liam gets her. Closing my eyes, I heard a faraway noise of something ripping before I was pulled into a deep slumber.
My phone started to buzz, reminding me to wake up. I leisurely made my way out of bed and down the stairs. Realizing that James was no longer downstairs, I took the opportunity to turn on some lights. The house was actually quite cozy when it did not look like a bat cave.
I made my way back to the kitchen and looked through the cabinets for something to eat. Finally I found a can of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup on the top shelf. Peeling back the lid, I emptied its contents into a pot on the stove. It cooked for about fifteen minutes, and then I poured it into my bowl.
Taking a seat at the table, I checked my phone to see what time it was. My phone screen read six o'clock. That meant that I had a half an hour until Liam picked me up. I quickly ate my soup and then proceeded to put my bowl in the sink. Grabbing my combat boots near the door, I went outside and sat on the porch.
For the next thirty minutes, I sat on the porch waiting for Liam. Once it hit six thirty, ten minutes past. After that, another ten minutes passed, and then another. Fed up with how late he was, I got up to go inside. Just as my hand was on the doorknob, I heard a car pull up.
"Get in." Liam demanded.
"Why should I?" I asked coldly.
"Listen, I have an excuse, but please get in the car. You've got to trust me. Now hurry up!" He exclaimed, rushing me.
Hurriedly, I made my way to the car and opened it. I sat down and slammed the door closed. This was going to be one heck of a night.
