Living in a society with people of different faiths, we often come across non-muslims. In order to convey the message of Islam, dialogue and debate become inevitable.
The Glorious Qur’an says:
“Invite (all) to the way of thy Lord, with wisdom and beautiful preaching, and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious!”
[Al-Qur’an 16:125]
In conveying the message of Islam to a non-Muslim, it is usually not sufficient to highlight only the positive nature of Islam. Most non-Muslims are not convinced about the truth of Islam because there are a few questions about Islam at the back of their minds that remain unanswered.
They may agree with your contentions about the positive nature of Islam. But, in the same breath, they will say - “Ah! But you are the same Muslims who marry more than one woman. You are the same people who subjugate women by keeping them behind the veil. You are fundamentalists!!! etc.”
This evening I met A muslim Brother of mine Who was having discussion with two of His non-muslim colleagues, explaining to them the truth about Islam. One thing that came up in that discussion was that "There are "muslims" who are terrorists"
In reply to this, I said "Yes there are people who fight and kill all in the name of Islam.But who is islam to be blamed when Islam doesn't approve what they are doing? Does it mean that whosoever speaks Arabic is a muslim or all men with beards are muslims or all those who say they are muslims are muslims?"
Now! If they ask you about Islam being a Religion of Terror, tell them that Islam teaches peace. In fact the root word for Islam is 'Salama' which means 'peace'. Islam teaches us not to kill or slay or to lie five times a day.
Instead it teaches Kindness, to treat those who treat us bitter 'better'. Islam teaches us the love and care for animals. It teaches us all that is good and forbids all that is evil.
So if someone went against all these and claim to be a muslim, then he is not a follower of Islam because Islam is not about saying "I am a Muslim" but implementing it in your daily life.
Islam teaches all that is good that is why it is A way of life for the Whole of Humanity.
So let not our knowledge on our deen be limited to what he or she says.Study Islam from the real sources which is Quran And Sunnah.
REMEMBER!! Islam was not sent to a bunch of perfect people but it was sent to teach people Perfectness.
