Another day. Another tragedy?
"So mum, what's the reason you wanted to move to Peach Hills anyway?" I ask while I get ready for school. "I like it, it's small, comfortable." She answers after a while. "There have been so many animal attacks. What do you think of them? Didn't you read up on here before we came, they haven't stopped for a long time!" I explain to her, trying to be subtle in the way I hint my questions. She hesitates for a second, I see it in her face and eyes. "Yeah sweetheart I know and they are very weird, all these things happening but we will be fine." She tells me and takes a sip of her morning coffee. "The people are drained of blood, almost like" I pause for a second "vampires." I say it as a joke but I still need to see her reaction. She chokes a little on her coffee. "Your kidding me? Vampires, really?" She starts laughing and changes the subject. "So, you off to school this morning?" She asks. "Yeah okay." I get up, grab my things and head off to Panda. "Good morning my friend." I say to my car as I pat the roof. "Really? You talk to your car!" I hear Cory walk up behind me. "You stalking me now or something?" I ask sarcastically. "Want a ride?" I ask pointing to my car. "Sure." He gives me a friendly fist bumb and walks toward the passenger seat. "What about Peter?" I ask as I sit in the car and close my door. Just as I finish asking I hear my car door open, close and the seat belt buckle all in the matter of three seconds. "He's right here." Cory smiles and I can't help but laugh. "Good morning Peter." I look in my mirror to see him and nod my head. He has taken up the middle back seat. "Natasha Winter." He nods back.
So did you talk to your mother yet?" Peter asks as we walk to class. "Yeah, this morning actually." "What did she say?" He asks, what is he trying to figure out? "She was all hesitant to answer and changed the subject fairly quickly." I say confusingly. I don't know what any of this means. We walk into class and take a seat next to Cory. "Tash spoke to her mum, I think she knows!" Peter says confidently to Cory. Just as Cory tries to ask me something Mary comes up to the three of us. "Mary. Hi." I say. I don't know if the guys know about her knowing anything. "Hey Tash, hey guys." She gives me a stern look and I give her one back. I know what I'm doing she doesn't need to tell me they're evil. "Natasha how old is your mum?" Cory asks me. "37, pretty young why?" He ignores me and turns to Peter. "Could it be possible she wants to make the switch?" Cory asks him. "Make the switch to what?" I interrupt. "To who we are silly." Peter whispers. "She's still young, she moved to a town where vampires live and she knows it! It's pretty obvious Pete." Cory continues. My mother, a vampire! This is ridiculous because I didn't even know that they existed now they are telling me my mother has known all along! "Well can't you guys use mind control. Use compulsion to ask her." I explain to them. "Okay we will. After school we can just come home with you." Peter agrees with Cory and we smile. "I'm trying to teach here are you guys deaf! Pay attention you stupid teenagers!" Our math teacher scream out. We didn't hear him yell at us until now! "Sorry sir." I say for the three of us. He starts to walk over. "Everyone do your work!" To my surprise they listen to him. None of them peak to see what he is doing either. "Detention for all of you!" He says as he comes up to us. Peter stands up. "That won't be necessary sir." He says looking him in the eyes. "Your right, sorry for yelling Mr. Handwood." He apologies and turns around to walk away. "Sir come back for a second." He does as Cory says. "Be nice from now on, just calm down sir no need to be so angry all the time" I realise again that Cory looks him in the eyes. The teacher smiles and walks away from us humming music. It is then I realise they used compulsion on Mr Deak. "You guys are bad!" I whisper to them letting out a giggle. "Yeah we know, but it is for the greater good." They both whisper back at me laughing. "So Handwood huh?" I nudge Peter laughing. "Yes Miss freezing season!" He jokingly says back. "Ouch Peter." I feel Cory put his hand on my thigh and leans closer to me. "Don't flirt with him." He says plainly, it sends a shiver through my ear and straight to my stomach but I brush it off. "Gees Cory, overprotective much?" I hear Peter say to both of us. I feel Cory move his hand off my leg almost instantly. Then I realise why. "Peter what the fuck! We don't do that in class!" I tell him off and slap his hand. I look at Cory's thigh and there is a yellow HB pencil half way in his leg. Cory rips it out and his skin closes over the wound almost instantly. Peter wipes the blood off Cory's leg. "It heals princess. Relax." He says to me.
"Okay, so what are we going to say?" I ask Peter and Cory as we pull up at my house and get out of the car. "I'll ask her if she knows." Peter explains to me. "And me and you will listen from your bedroom." Cory adds. If she is innocent this will run smoothly.
