CAL:

“Hey hey, why does it feel like we’ve lost our best friend?” Keith asks as I sink onto the couch beside him.

“Don’t be so melodramatic man! I’m around...I’m just going through a rough patch, that’s all,” I mumble.

“You know what’s the best cure for rough patches? Alcohol!” Jordan chuckles handing me a can of beer.

I blanche in disgust. I’ve had way too much to drink over the past few days. I really, really need to cool it before I turn back into a stoner, or worse, before I get a beer belly!

“Oh god! Hanging out with the new kid for the past couple of days has turned you into a pussy already? Has she got you wrapped around her baby finger?” James teases.

“Shut up,” I mutter crossly taking a sip of the beer.

“Atta boy!” Jordan chuckles, thumping me on the back.

“I’m just gonna go see Lizzie for a moment,” I mumble, downing my beer.

Keith nods. “On your way back, get me a whiskey would you?”

I roll my eyes at him but nod anyway. I slink my way through the crowd until I get to the backroom where all the cheerleader girls are hanging out, doing their make up and cutting up their dresses to make them even shorter.

“Cal!” Amy purrs, running a finger down my cheek. “How are you baby?”

“Fingers off me Amy,” I mumble, shrugging her off.

“Oh baby, you so adorable!” she continues, kissing my jaw.

“Lizzie, can I speak to you?” I demand.

All the girls go quiet and Lizzie pinks a little. I notice Amy throw her a dangerous look and she shrugs her shoulders helplessly before following me out of the room.

“Hey,” I murmur once we’re away from the rest of the girls.

“Hi,” she squeaks, giving me a slight smile.

“I’m going to cut to the chase here, what’s with this friendship you have going on with Kayla? Are you using her?”

“What?!” she splutters, looking a bit pissy. “She’s my friend! I’m not using her! How dare you come into my house and accuse me of such things?!”

“Really? But you didn’t invite her to your party! Do you know how upset she was?” I ask softly.

“I know...I forgot! I didn’t mean to leave her out,” she confesses.

I assess her for a moment before nodding my head. I don’t trust her, she’s way too close to Amy for her to actually be a good friend for Kayla.

“Cal!” she calls as I’m walking away.

“Yeah?”

“Save me a dance later?” she asks hopefully.

“Yeah. Anything for our most gracious hostess!” I smirk.

It’s been way too long since I’ve partied hard. I stop by the drinks bar and grab a whiskey for Keith and a brandy for myself.

“Let’s party!” I announce brightly, heading over to my gang. They grin before we make our little toast. We’re going to make tonight insane!
