CAL:

“Boo!” I whisper into Kayla’s ear.

She shrieks, knocking into a pile of books, sending them toppling down before she goes down herself. Oops!

Trying to hold in the laughter, I throw an apologetic look to the librarian before crouching down to pick Kayla up.

“Jerk!” she hisses, hitting me.

Sam is also on the floor, grabbing hold of her sides in laughter.

“Sorry! Couldn’t help it!” I shrug, kissing her neck lightly.

I pull away before we get too carried away and start a full out make-out session. I’ll save Sam from that!

“What are you doing here?” Kayla demands, picking up the books. “I thought you went home?”

“I did. I lay down for a bit, then I got bored and I thought I’d come check on you two. It’s almost six…how about we head to my place for dinner?” I offer.

Kayla and Sam share a look before nodding. They quickly stuff the books back into the shelves and within ten minutes, we’re in the parking lot, almost at my car.

“So, how’d the research go?” I ask nonchalantly, unlocking the door.

Both girls’ faces light up.

“This masquerade ball is so mysterious, Cal!” Kay enthuses, jumping up and down.

“I think it’s a bit pretentious actually,” I mutter.

Both Sam and Kayla give me withering looks before turning to each other and shaking their heads. Obviously this is something only a girl would understand.
