Three years later….
I gave birth to James Briggs-Powsner seven months later. He was a delicate baby, his hair a sandy blond, his eyes a light green. The day he was born, he lit up my life. He would be - and still is - the only true man in my life.
Adrian and I moved in together just days after I broke up with Niall. We stayed there until we realized that the small, one-bedroom flat would not accomodate another person - even if they were just a baby - so we bought a flat a few blocks away.
I have come to love Adrian. He still is sort of like a brother to me, but I love him more than I ever loved Niall...and almost as much as I loved Harry.
Harry and the boys went on their world tour just weeks after Niall and I broke up. I kept in contact with Liam - who still is a good friend today - and he kept me updated on Niall. I was worried Niall would go and tell the world about the breakup, but he hasn't said a word in the past three years, and I'm not too worried anymore.
Liam says that Harry still seems a little lost. So far, he's had a few things with girls, but nothing serious according to Liam. He says that Harry often bemoans the fact that he can't find, "the one", but Liam secrely thinks it's because he's stil secretly hurt.
I thought I was over Harry, until the other day in the park.
Adrian was working on a new film and was out in L.A. for the week. I took James to the park. It was a gorgeous May day, and the sun was shining. As I sat down on a bench, I felt the sadness come over me. My life could have been so much different, but I’m secretly glad it turned out this way.
James goes off to chase pigeons, and I’m distracted. Before I know it, I see out of the corner of my eye someone picking up James.
“James!” I scream, leaping up and running towards the two. It’s a man, taller than me, and he’s lifted James up above his head, spinning him around. James is laughing and seems unhurt, but I’m still worried for his safety.
“James!” I scream again. I rush up to the man, who turns around.
I suck in a breath as I realize who it is.
“Hi Lisa.” Harry smiles softly as he places James on the ground.
I smile quickly.
“Hi Harry,” I say, grabbing James’ hand and pushing him next to me.
“It’s been a while,” says Harry. He fiddles with his collar.
“Yes. Yes it has,” I say, almost to myself.
Harry bends down and looks at James.
“This is James?” he asks, looking up at me.
“Yes. James, say hello to Harry.”
“Hi Harry!” says James, holding out his free hand. Harry takes it and shakes it. He smiles.
Harry gets up and dusts off his knees. He looks at me with his sad green eyes.
“I still love you Lisa. I still do,” he says, almost as if he’s trying to convince himself.
Deep down, I know the true answer in my heart, but I shake my head instead.
Harry sighs.
“Guess it’s just not the right time then, huh?” he says, almost to himself. He turns away, walking without saying goodbye.
James looks up at me and frowns.
“Why didn’t he say goodbye?” he asks quizzically.
“Because,” I say, to both James and myself. “It’s not goodbye. It’s just the beginning.”
