Today

The cannibals were pounding on the door in a desperate attempt to get away from the fire chasing them. It was kind of ironic how we used to be the ones who were killing them off before they could get to us, but now we are the ones being hunted.

"Lizzy! Come out! Come out! We are only beginning to have some fun! Just wait till we get in there! Then the party can officially start, my dear!" Tears crept up in my eyes. The door was splintering and they would be inside in not even a minute.

Charles was gripping my hand so hard it cut off my circulation. He didn't know who was out there. If only he knew, then he would be even more terrified. At least he was deaf so he had no idea how long we had before we were killed, but he could still see perfectly fine. He saw how terrified I was. He saw the splinters of wood hit the floor not far from our hiding spot. A whimper escaped his trembling lips.

We need to stay quiet. Is it okay if I cover your mouth? I signed to him, more tears escaping as the banging on the door increased. It seems harsh, but he doesn't know when he is making noises and him being in charge of making sure he's quiet is a little stupid.

He didn't even sign back, just nodded his head so hard I thought it was going to go flying off. Before he could change his mind, I covered his mouth and pressed as hard as I could cause I know that since he's deaf, his talking voice is him yelling and his yelling is bloodcurdling screaming.

"Lizzy, my darling. We're going to be united real soon. Hope you saved yourself for me like you told me you were going to!" Why was he still here? I never promised him anything like that. God, please don't let him get through that door. Charles is too young and innocent to die. He's only six for Pete's sake.

I shut my eyes only to hear the unmistakable sound of the door breaking.

We're going to die aren't we? My little brother signed into the palm of my hand. I shook my had at him.

No. We are going to a place where we won't have to worry about dying all the time. I promise you that you won't feel a thing. More tears poured down my face as I thought about what was going to happen to us. Image after image flashed through my head like a story board in the making. The men outside that door aren't going to waste any time when they get in. They'll kill my brother first and then drag me and his dead body out the door by our hair. They won't kill me. At least not at first. They'll wait until we get back to camp and try to convert me to their ways. When that doesn't work, they'll kill me. My brothers too young and disabled on top of that. If they keep him alive even a minute after they see him, it will be a miracle.

Close your eyes, baby boy. I don't want you to be scared. Alright? I love you to the moon and back. Like always, he listened to me and shut his eyes just as then men walked into the same room as us.

"Lizzy. Come out. Come out. Wherever you are. I have a very special person here to see you. She traveled a long way just to see you before you have to die. Cause who are we kidding. You'll never eat the sacred flesh of your brothers. You'll never accumulate the kind of power and strength that we have. I hope you've had a good life, my love. But don't be sad. We'll both see each other again. In hell." He was right in front of me. His men spreading around the tiny apartment room as he took tiny steps towards me, spinning every now and then, giving me hope that he didn't know where I was.

"I know where your hiding my love. Do you want me to do this the easy way or the hard way?" I was literally breathing onto his well cleaned combat boots. Those shoes were his birthday present last year from me.

"General? Are you sure she's here? I don't see any sign that her or her brother were here even if they were just passing through. Look. The dust hasn't even been disturbed anywhere," said the guy closest to the door. I fought back the giggle that wanted to escape. They don't see any disturbance in the dust because Charles and I were in the air vents in the wall.

We aren't stupid enough to go actually in the house. It was kind of obvious that the abandoned, empty apartment hadn't been used for weeks now. Also we knew that the cannibals were smart enough to check for dust disturbances any place they go. If they never did, then a lot of people would still be alive. The man closest to the observant man smacked him upside the head.

"If the General says that the girl is here, then the girl is here." Wow. This guy has way too much blind trust in their 'General'. Sad enough, is I know him. I know him. I loved him. I thought he loved me. Like always, I was wrong. He was using me like every other person I know.

Keep you eyes closed baby boy. We'll make it out of here and I'll find you the biggest bar of chocolate I can from the store. That sound good?

What kind of chocolate? Not white chocolate. Anything, but that. I'd rather have milk chocolate mixed with peanut butter than be white chocolate.

A smile was on my face before I could even blink. How does he do that? How did he keep his innocence after the world went to shit? But the most important question should be, how did he even know what white chocolate was? Did he steal from my private stash or did one of the girls give it to him before we were attacked?

"Oh, she's here alright. You just don't know her like I do. She wouldn't have picked the first or last room on either side of the hallway and definitely not the middle room. She's right handed so she would have chosen the right side to hide on. She thinks she has more control over this side. The door second to last wasn't locked so she wouldn't have felt safe there. That leaves this room as her only option. Plus this room is the only room with enough room to hide both her and her brother." Shit. Fuck. Shit. Of course he would use his brain while he was searching for me. The sound of someone taking their safety of echoed throughout the room.

"However, there are still a limited amount a space big enough for them, so we have three options. Option number one, they are in the air shafts in the ceiling. Option number two, they're in the air shafts in the wall. Option number three, they are in the air shafts underneath the floor boards." He crept down and peered right into the air shaft where we were hiding. I froze at the sight of his curly brown hair and sparkling grey eyes. He was till as handsome as ever. The only imperfection I could see was the scar on his right eye like Scar off of the Lion King. I would know because I gave it to him.

"There you are my love. Thought you could get rid of me that easy?"

I will always love you, my baby boy. I'll make sure that you stay safe. Don't forget my baby boy. Now, I need you to crawl as fast as you can toward the bags, grab them and go as quietly as you can to the room we saw earlier that we have agreed on. Remember it? He nodded his head. Good. Then I need you to wait there for me. Please be as quiet as you can. I won't be there to tell you if your too loud so I need you to try really hard. If I'm not there by daybreak tomorrow, then you need to leave. Go look for Lavender. Now go before he sees you. I'll see again baby boy. I promise. Tears slid down my face as I tried to sign as fast as I could.

I'll be there big sis. I trust you. I love you more than life itself. Be safe. If not for yourself, do it for Xander and me. We need you. Even stray tears leaked from my brothers eyes as he slid silently down the air shaft.

I signed to him one last time before I was yanked out of the shaft by my hair. I love you most.

"Time for some fun, my love. You ready to play?"
