Part Six :: Don't

Itsuo closed the door.

That same mail kid from the other day...

He brought the pack over to the table and set it down.

"Hey," Constance nagged "No items on the table while eating."

She gave him an irritated look. He stuck his tongue at her. She just ignored him and continued eating.

Why did they have to make tech stuff so rude?  He thought.

Itsuo got up from the table and walked over to the counter with the package, grabbing a small knife from the drawer to open it.

Inside was a large, white, hardcover book. The front read "A Heart Taken"

Itsuo gasped. He had completely forgot.

"Constance," he ran to the entry way, quickly slipping on his coat. "I have somewhere to be that I forgot about. Watch the house while I'm gone, okay?"

She frowned. "Be back by seven." He waved to her as he wrapped his scarf around is neck and put on his boots. It had snowed alot the night before, so he would have to put on the easiest outfit for cold if he still wanted to make it in time.

"Yeah, I'll try!" He waved and went out the door.

He looked down the road as he walked up to his small grey car.

Houses dotted down the road, usually in snow covered fields. No one had seemed to shovel their driveways other than him. But they were probably just waiting for the plow to do it for them.

He got in and started his car, also turning on the windshields to get rid of some bothersome snow.

Itsuo quickly drove out of the small driveway. 

I hope I'm not gonna be too late... he thought. Itsuo turned on the cars air, as to warm himself.  As he continued to drive through the countryside, he thought of Constance.

I wonder... he thought, is it really possible for a robot to be that life-like? It seems impossible... and technology hasn't advanced that much... so maybe she's not?

He stopped in front of a train track. To his disappointment, it seemed that it wasn't going to keep on moving for long. The train came to an abrupt stop, and he saw someone get out and go inspect the wheels.

Looks like some ice got clogged in there or something... I'll have to go the long way.

Itsuo turned his car around on the small piece of turn pavement next to the track.

Hopefully I'll make it in time...
