Chapter 9 - jump in

I can't get my thoughts straight ever since last night, I didn't understand anything, I had talked to Autumn when we had headed back to our dorm to get ready for class, and to Gus in 1st hour. I had made up my mind that I was heading back to that place. I put my hand in my school sachel to check if the bag of "portal" seeds where still there. My fingers felt them at the bottom, and I signed with relief. I was going back tonight, I didn't care if no one else would go with me, but I had to.

"Mae!" Gus said

I didn't noticed I was in a daze.

"Yeah?"

"When are you going back?"

"Tonight." I answered

"I think I'll go back to..." Gus said. He became silent for a few seconds the he spoke again. "Are we supposed to go all together... Or meet up once we're there?"

His question caught my attention... Would we be able to find each other if we didn't go all together? I thought for a bit.

"I think I'd be best... If all 4 of us went together... Who knows if well be able to kind each other if we don't..."

His brown eyes turned serious.
"Your probably right... So at what time should we go back, and where would we meet up?"

"30 minutes after lights out. Most people should probably be asleep by then, out in the field." Lights out, when every one is supposed to be in they're dorm sleeping was at 10pm.
He nodded his head showing he understood.

"I'll tell Joey." He said.

"Is that the other guy that was with us?" I asked. He nodded

"Yeah." He turned to my direction and gave me a smile. All I could do was grin back, although I had to force it since I was too worried to give off a real smile.

I looked at the clock. 10:05pm... Almost time.

Time seemed to get slower and slower each second, I had eventually fallen asleep when I felt a tug on my shoulder.

"Mae, its 10:32... We should get going..." Autumn said as she tilted her head in the direction of the door.

I nodded as I rubbed my cluched fists against my sleepy eyes.

We headed out to the field, and as I expected, the boys were already there. My body felt heavy with sleep, since I hadn't got much sleep the night before, and it didn't seem like I'd be getting much tonight either. We approached Gus and Joey, Joey looking more tired then Gus, but knowing Gus, he had probably slept through all his classes.
I took out the small bag of seeds I had left in my pocket earlier and took out a seed. It began to glow bright. First a shade of green, then the shade of green began to grow into a shade of blue and so on. We stared at it, not knowing how to use it.

".... For goodness sakes just drop it!" Gus said impatiently.

I let it slip from between my finger. It hit the ground... Nothing. Then, a the tiny seed began to grow into a hole. The bright glow that was once in the seed, took place on the ground where I had dropped it, and it expanded forming a huge hole in the ground that illuminated the field with bright colors.
Gus turned to Joey, then nervously to Autumn and I. He gave us a smile.

"Ladies first, no?" He said trying to sound polite.

I laughed sarcastically. "Ah.. No."

He smiled and shrugged. "I was just trying to be polite." He said with a smirk.

"So who's gonna go first?" Said Joey, hoping it won't be him. Autumn shrugged.

"I will." She said plainly.

"Alrighty then miss off you go-" Gus said as he began to push Autumn.

"Hey!" She said as she pushed him off, "I can do it on my own." Gus raised his hands away from her and backed way as a sign of him backing off.

he jumped in and disappeared.

"Alright guys... Your turn." I said with a smile.

"What?! Why- why don't you go first?!" They both said wining.

"Because, I'll be here to make sure you don't chicken out and stay behind." I responded. I could tell by the expression they both gave me I had mocked them.

"Fine." Gus said. "Come on Joey." He said still looking at me as he tugged his friend into the portal.
I stood alone now, staring down at the portal. I felt this funny feeling down in my stomach telling me not to go, but curiosity got the best of me and I jumped in.
