Mae's POV

Lunch, finally. After 3 boring class filled with people I didn't like, I was quite hungry. I grabbed my tray and went looking for my best friend Yesica. I was about 4 feet away from the table when it hit me. I remembered we weren't friends anymore... Because she had found a new "better" friend that she actually had "fun" with. No wonder I got no more than a glance from her in the morning. I turned around and walked away to find someone else to eat lunch. Luckily, I found a few close friends and sat down next to them.
"Hey Mae. " I was greeted by one of my friends, Jay, as I sat down.
I greeted him back and grinded

"Why aren't you with Yesica?" He asked as the table went quiet at his comment.
I looked down at my food as I lost my appetite.

"...... I-I don't want to talk about it." I said as I kept my head down and played with my food with my spork.

He looked down at me and frowned a bit

"Ok.."

"Thank you." He smiled and nodded.

The lunch bell rang and it was time to go back to class. I grabbed my thing and headed to my next class. I got to my class when I was surprised to find all the students lined up outside they're classes.

"Alright, alright settle down, settle down students, we are to go to the auditorium because principal Torres wants to tell us all something." The teacher told the students as they all lined up behind each other in an orderly fashion . The teacher kept on going on what we where supposed to do, but I stopped listening after a while.
The line moved along as we walked to the auditorium. They sat us in rows after that as the principal waited for our silence to begin talking.
He cleared his throat.

"I have brought you guys... And girls here tell you that we will be adding an additional 'hang out' place on the other side of the campus, where your rooms are located" the students cheered at the news, "but..." he continued and the crowd silenced once again. "We will have to tear down some of the students room, so most of the students will be sharing rooms with a room mate." The silence ended and you could hear some of the students awing.
One of the other teachers yelled out for the students to settle down and they did.
"The decision is made, and some of you will be having roommates. You may be excused to your next class."

We all walked back to class after that, and as expected, most students got an envelope saying they'll be getting a roommate, or will be moving in with a roommate. I got a letter saying I'd be sharing a room with a roommate. Autumn. It said at the bottom of the paper that was in the envelope. No one had last names, since the population on earth now was so small and no one really new who was their parent to begin with. School ended and I went back to my dorm/room to clean up a bit before my new roommate came.
