Day 5

Ten days left. Those were the first words that flashed in my mind as the most annoying and ear-screeching sound filled the room. I lay still for a few seconds, trying to ignore the sound and simultaneously wondering how I could make this day special for Sadie.

"Robert! Wake up!" I sat up and found Gia standing over me, holding her phone out as the noise continued on. I glared at her and sat up, rubbing my eyes. The sound of running water signaled that Tristan was bathing.

"Does Tristan know you're here?" I asked blearily. Gia shook her head, turning off the 'music'. She was dressed in sweatpants and a hoodie, and her hair was in a loose braid that draped over her shoulder, winding down to stop a few inches above her waist. The room was oddly quiet without the sound.

"Sam said we're leaving at four-ish. We need to make the most of our day." She said in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Yeah, yeah, okay. You should go or else Tristan might walk out here in the nude...and he doesn't want to be judged." I gave her a look. Gia rolled her eyes and reached out one hand to ruffle my already messy hair before leaving. I shut my eyes tightly for a few seconds. Why did she have to do that?

"Dude. You really need all this girl stuff to sort itself out." I looked up to see Tristan walk out of the bathroom in a cloud of steam, completely clothed thankfully, and his blonde hair dark with water.

"You saw that?" I asked with a cringe.

"I heard voices so I slowly creaked open the door to see who it was, saw that, and closed the door again until I heard her leave. Dude." Tristan raised his eyebrows. "First you've got Margie, an awesome, equally nerdy friend, that's pretty easy on the eyes I might add," He waggled his eyebrows and I glared, "then you've got Gia," Tristan continued, "who guys would kill for. Pretty, flirtatious, outgoing, exuberant- she's got a lot going for her. And then, of course," he paused for a millisecond, "there's Sadie. Bobby, Sadie Calloway! The most unreachable, gorgeous, clever, amazing girl in the whole school! Come on."

Even as my eyebrows crinkled, a weak smile formed on my face. "Honestly, Tristan, I don't know if I want any of them. Too much pressure." I sighed, picking at my shirt. "I'd better get dressed."

I was the last one down to breakfast, which was in large dining room on the main floor of the hotel. Honestly, I have no idea who came out with the idea that girls take a long time to get ready, because by the time I went down there Gia and Sam were eating and Sadie was at the end of the buffet, talking to Tristan. They laughed about something and a knot of jealousy and tremor formed in my stomach.

I quickly attached myself to the end of the buffet, barely thinking about what I wanted to eat, just wanting to get to the table to eat quickly. When I found myself in a chair and actually looked down at my plate I was disappointed. Instead of the steamy pancakes on Sam's plate or the fat peaches on Tristan's plate I had a wimpy bowl of soggy cornflakes in a splash of milk and the smallest, saddest looking breakfast bun ever. I sighed and somehow managed to eat my sad breakfast slowly. This was going to be a long day.

"So what are the plans for today?" Gia asked brightly, finishing off what had to be her fourth chocolate chip pancake.

"I don't know, anything you guys want to see in particular?" Sam asked, gesturing with her fork. I shrugged, Tristan and Sadie following suit. "I guess we'll play it by ear then." Sam shrugged and bit into her pancake. My stomach growled.
