Day 9

"Bobby! What are you doing? Wake up!" I blinked rapidly a few times at my mom's voice and felt something shift against me. Sitting up, I shoved back the blankets from around my shoulders and took in my surroundings. I was in the TV room, on the couch, beside...Sadie. Sadie. I'd spent the night sleeping next to Sadie. My eyes grew very wide as I turned and saw her beside me, looking around in confusion; she turned to face me and her eyes cleared as she realized where she was. "You have to go to school!" I looked up at my mom who glared with her hands on her hips. "Come on, you two."

I stood, turning to Sadie who also quickly stood up. There was a tinge of pink to her cheek; I scratched my ear, feeling heat flush my face. "Do you need anything clothes-wise?" I asked awkwardly, pushing up my glasses that had been lopsidedly sliding off my nose.

"Well," she laughed slightly, "this shirt is a bit wrinkled. Do you think...?"

"Yeah, of course! I'll be right back." I headed to my room and changed quickly into my usual button down and khakis, pulled a comb through my hair and grabbed a blue t-shirt that looked fairly new before heading back downstairs. I gave the shirt to Sadie and directed her to the bathroom. She thanked me and hurried off. While waiting I dug around in the cabinet to find a few Rice Krispy Treats. I dumped a few into a bowl and heated them up so they were all melted and gooey. Separating the mix into two bowls I turned to set Sadie's on the counter but instead ran into her. She took the bowl and gave me her half-smile before spooning some mix into her mouth. She nodded her approval and a warm feeling filled my stomach. It could've just been the Rice Krispies though.

I drove us to school in my beat up old car and parked niftily before shutting off the engine. For some reason we both just sat there, not looking at each other. I swallowed nervously and scratched my ear for a few seconds then, feeling stupid about my nervous stick, forced my hand into my lap. Finally, I cleared my throat.

"Sadie-"

"We should go. The bell rings in five minutes." She cut in quickly, slicing off my words. I nodded, trying not to feel disappointed and opened the door, climbing out of my car. When I stood I found myself facing her. She looked away, quickly shutting the car door. I opened my mouth to attempt at speaking again but Sadie walked past me without another look, heading towards the building. I looked after her and once she walked into the school I bit my fist in frustration, growling in the back of my throat. With a heavy sigh I walked in after her, stepping into my homeroom just as the bell rang. Margie glanced at me then away and then back. She clearly wanted to know if I'd been sick yesterday. Honestly, I wasn't in the mood to answer her prying questions, so I stood by the door to listen to announcements and left the second the bell rang.

Climbing to the third floor was a slow journey. I didn't understand Sadie's behavior this morning; after yesterday I'd thought we'd been making progress! Well...I'd been making progress. I sighed for the second time that morning and walked to my first class.

Walking into the cafeteria was one of the hardest things I'd ever done. I didn't really know why, to be honest. My eyes immediately zoomed to Sadie, like a magnet. She threw her head back laughing, her hair shimmering in the lights of the cafeteria. God, she was stunning. I closed my eyes for a few seconds and walked in, heading for my usual table. Sam looked up when I sat down and smiled.

"You're back!"

"Yup." She frowned in concern then glanced back at Sadie and understanding dawned on her face.
