Hey everyone! So I know I haven't gotten anywhere on this yet, but I just wanted to say that since it's FINALLY summer, I have a lot more time to work on this. So yeah, that's it!
......................................................
Alex's POV
I look down. "Whatever." I mumble, before heading off the bus.
I can't believe that just because I was having a completely decent conversation with a guy, some jerk had the nerve to call me gay. I mean, not that I had a problem with gay people, but...
I know I was a little rude to him at the end of the ride. I just didn't really know what to say. He seems like a pretty cool guy though. I mean, he knows Blink 182. He can't be that bad.
I walk into the office and tell the receptionist my name.
"Oh, you moved recently, right?" She smiles at me from her spot behind the desk.
"Yeah, over the summer."
"Alright, here's your schedule," she says handing me a freshly printed piece of paper. She points the way to my first class and I thank her before heading on my way.
Trying to make my way through the hallway, crowded with people who have been here for their entire lives, I spot Jack pressed up against his locker, trying to fight the gravity of all the people going in one direction as he struggles in the other.
As soon as he catches my eyes, they flit away, probably embarrassed about what went on in the bus. I really hate that that guy had to say that. I mean, I've had my fair share of bullies at my old school, and if I have to go through that here as well I don't know what I'll do.
It's probably just that one guy, I reassure myself warily. Although it's probably not. Oh, well. It's just the first day. I'll join a team, I reason. I'm pretty okay at football. I can make friends.
I spy a door with a room number that matches the one on my schedule and hurry towards it, not wanting to be late. It probably wouldn't matter, seeing a it's an advisory/study hall sort of thing, but better to start off on the right foot.
Once I step inside the wooden door, all eyes turn to me. And as my own sweep around the classroom, I notice that there are only around ten or so people in the class. Great. I've learned over time that the more people there are, the more you can just drift into the background. Really, that's all I want to do in class. My grades have dropped so drastically over the past years that I need to get them up or I'll have to stay back a year.
I try to slide into a seat inconspicuously but unfortunately the teacher gestures me to the front of the room. She's a scrawny old lady with completely white hair and a dreamy look on her face. The rims of her glasses are striped and she's wearing a purple and blue polka dotted dress.
I stand there awkwardly, feeling the straps of my heavy back pack dig into my shoulder, the result of not being able to go to my locker this morning. I'm just waiting for the teacher to do something. I guess she expects me to introduce myself, and when I don't, she fills in the empty silence by saying, so softly that even I have to strain to hear, "Class, this is our new student Alex Gaskarth from Baltimore, Maryland. I know you will all make him feel welcome and help him find his way. Thank you." She beams as if she has just won a prize and then flutters away towards her desk absentmindedly. I wonder why the school still keeps her around.
I try to smile and act confident as I walk quickly to an empty seat in the back of the room and set my back pack on the floor. I figure this is a good a time as any to start looking over my stuff, so I pull out my schedule and examine it. For first and seventh periods, there are different classes depending on the day, but for the rest they're pretty similar.

Dismissal
This is a frickin messed up schedule. I mean, thirty minutes for lunch? I need at least an hour. How do we even eat? And the times were all screwed up. The classes all had different times. I decided I would have to keep my schedule on hand for a few days until I could memorize my classes.
All of a sudden the door flings open, doorknob hitting the parallel wall. I catch sight of a familiar Blink 182 t-shirt and messy brown hair with a large blond streak. It's the guy from the bus. Jack.
I try to hide my face behind a textbook as I hear a breathless voice say, "Sorry I'm late, Mrs. Goldburg. I had to get my books from my locker and then I really had to pee and while I was in there I saw--"
"Sit down, Mister Barakat." interrupts the teacher, Mrs. Goldburg I guess. I sigh and slouch behind the textbook.
JACK'S POV
"Sorry I'm late, Mrs. Goldburg. I had to get my books from my locker and then I really had to pee and while I was in there I saw--" I ramble.
"Sit down, Mister Barakat." interrupts Mrs. Goldburg. I grin apologetically and look around for an empty seat. I recognize most of the kids from last year, and, a new face. Or head, really. He's hiding behind a textbook. Alex. I walk over and sit across the aisle from him. This is getting ridiculous.
"Hey," I say easily. "I guess we have this class together, huh?"
Alex looks at me like I'm weird. I guess that was kind of a stupid question. I want him to say something though, so I wait with bated breath for what seems like an eternity but in reality is probably less than five seconds. He smiles. "Yeah, we do."
A/N Okay so sorry to anyone who's reading this, it's kinda a filler chapter. I promise you I will try to make the next one more exciting!! Although I can't promise any jalexy action yet! I just felt bad about being really lax about updating so I've decided to update every one or two weeks. I'm starting another story as well if you wanna check it out, I haven't published anything but I will soon. I'm excite about this story, I think it's gonna be interesting! And sorry about any spelling mistakes, my kindle is being a dick.
