Percy unpacked the last of the boxes in his new room. He couldn't believe it had all happened so fast. One day he was helping Annabeth's little cousin defeat some bad guys, and the next Paul was telling him about his new job offer in Washington. Then the four of them were off to the tiny town of Forks.
The town itself was tiny, a population of just over 3000. The only thing that made the little town standout was the constant cloud and rain cover. Forks seemed like it was the rainiest little town in the U.S.A. Due to the massive amount of annual rainfall, it was also one of the greenest. Most things were off the highway, Percy had noted as they had driven to the family's new home. The house was modest, two stories, three bedrooms, two baths. The street was sparsely populated with similar homes, as is typically seen in the older neighborhoods of small town America. The driveway of the house across the street held an old rusty red Chevy pickup truck. As they were unpacking, Percy thought he saw a girl in the window once.
A few hours after they started unpacking, there was a knock on the door. After double-checking riptide was ready to go, Percy opened the door to see a middle aged, mustache sporting police officer with an unidentifiable pan of baked goods in his hands. The man turned out to Forks' very own chief of police, Charlie Swan. After a slightly awkward exchange, Percy was informed that Charlie lived in the house across the street with his 17 year old daughter, Bella. She had moved in with him last year after spending most of her childhood in sunny Arizona, making her the last new student Forks had gained. Charlie mumbled something about her baking cookies while handing Percy the pan, and then said goodbye.
Percy of course, had told the man about Paul's new job and about his mom, but had no intention of letting the chief uncover anything about him and Annabeth. This move was meant to be a new beginning for the two of them. After the events of the years prior, they would have been content to live a (mostly) monster free life. Being their senior year, it was time for them to focus on academics for a change before heading off to New Rome new fall. They might have had guaranteed spots in the demigod college, but they still needed to prove they could handle an academic environment. Or at least Percy did anyways. Which was feasible, if he could go the year without the gods meddling in his life. (Looking at you, Hera)
Percy's mother and Annabeth had stayed in New York until the next day to tie up loose ends. As part of the moving process, Annabeth had some help from the Hecate cabin to make the mist cover up Mrs.O'leary, who had her own pen in the backyard. She was the demigods' way of travel back to the camps or New York if they needed to go back or wanted to visit.
Annabeth had the room across the hall from Percy. She was currently figuring out how she wanted her book shelf organized. The walls were a nice cream-gray color, and she had a beautiful view to the backyard. She was excited for school to start, at long last she would be in classes with Percy. Thankfully, the area was free of monsters, due to the giants up in Canada claiming the ground as their summer territory. No monster dared to come into the area because if they stayed too long, they would become a giant's mid-winter snack. She was so absorbed in thought she didn't even notice Sally come in.
"I think Great Expectations would fit better next to The Complete Works of Shakespeare, not The Picture of Dorian Gray, don't you?" Sally said casually. Annabeth jumped.
"You scared me!" Annabeth exclaimed as Sally chuckled.
"Sorry about that! I was standing here for a while, but you didn't seem to notice. I just wanted to tell you something before Percy."
"What is it?" Annabeth asked. Sally had never done anything like this before, and wisdom's daughter was curious.
Sally smiled. "Paul and I are expecting. We found out two months ago, but waited to tell anybody until we were sure."
