7. Meet the Press

"Well Clary, you forgot to remind me why I stay away from your mundie friends," Jace said from the driver's seat. He was holding his arm out for Clary to put on a final rune for him. They had jokingly argued over why they were even going to check out this supposed illegal clan on the drive. It was of course, part of the job. Besides, ever since the aftermath of the Malcom Fade incident, Jace and Clary had taken a few days off from running the institute and went to check up on the Blackwells. Mark was adjusting well, and Julian and Emma were managing the rest of the kids well. This trip however, Clary made him drive up to Washington to help out the demigods. Jace had voted completely against it. There hadn't been any unsolved murders in the area for years, and there was only one missing person in the entire county.

"Come on Jace. They're not mundanes, and besides this involves the Clave," Clary retorted. He sighed. he looked out the window at the group talking, then proceeded to exit the vehicle. Clary joined him. Ever since the two of them had started to be co-heads of the NY institute, Jace seemed to have a more regal look to him. Clary for sure was not the 15-year-old girl she was eight years ago . Together they had matured, and were adults with responsibilities and duties to pertain to. Likewise, their friends were getting married around them. Well, Alec and Magnus hadn't tied the knot yet, but had two kids that they were raising together. The vampires tensed up when they approached. Annabeth and Percy looked relieved to have some backup.

"What took you so long? You guys were supposed to meet us before the vamps got here!" Annabeth scowled.

"Sorry, someone doesn't like to drive fast and wouldn't go my way over here."

"I prefer the term "cautious driving", Clary."

"It's not cautious when there's nobody else for miles and you're ten miles below the speed limit. "

Jace just laughed it off. " Nevermind my driving. Let's talk about the reason we drove out all this way. Mind you, I prefer Clary's method of traveling long distance, but she's neve been here before. "

Percy shrugged. "Hey man, not my fault. I wanted to call in others but Annie said this was more your guy's jurisdiction."

" I suppose it is. Alright then" They all turned to face the defensively standing vampires.

"Care to explain what you're doing here?"
