10. Goodbye Les Mis

The shadowhunters and demigods followed the vampires to their house in Jace's truck. The house was magnificent with its' all glass back and secludedness. It was a fitting hideaway for a wealthy family and met the Cullen's needs. When they all entered, Jace eyed the grand piano.  Carlise was still ever cordial, and Esme offered them all some of the food they kept in the house for Bella. Percy and Annabeth graciously accepted, but Clary and Jace stayed wary remembering what happened to Simon.  It would be a slight inconvenience if one of their companions were to turn into a rodent. (Again) 

They all moved over to the living room and motioned for the guests to make themselves at home. Makings of a long discussion hung tensely in the air. Percy fiddled with a pen and Clary with a weird stick. Annabeth made note of all her surrounds, committing them to memory as best as possible. Jace did the same but with arrogant, sarcastic mental commentary.   The vampires took seats across the room and acted like humans for the others benefit, or perhaps simply due to habit. 

"Let's get down to business," Percy said in an authoritative manner that helped him take the lead in capture the flag.  " Your police guys talked with Jace's people a while ago. They made an agreement not to eat excessive amounts of people and completely comply with the clave  in exchange for protection and keeping you guys in the shadows. One thing the clave said they had to do was to make sure all of you guys were on the same page, meaning you all were documented. So why is it you guys weren't on their radar until now?"

"We haven't had contact with the Volturi in months, and we left them on unfriendly terms. Our number one rule, our only law, is to keep our existence a secret. This, of course, means to not tell humans other than subjugates or one's meal what you are.  Bella and I's  relationship is a problem because I have no intention of changing her at the current time. I love her, and she can't seem to see how I don't want  this kind of pain for her." 

Bella scowled, gave Edward an eye roll, and then mumbled something  under her breath. Edward seemed to find her mumbling funny.  

"You know I love you dear," He took a short paused before continuing to explain, " The Volturi however, see this as a violation of the law and wish Bella  to be changed immediately. We do not want this and therefore are keeping out of trouble and contact  with others of our  kind until the situation changes. We had not  been informed of any such goings on with your clave and the Volturi in any recent years.  We would be happy to comply if you help us out with the Seattle problem." 

Their guests were confused. 

"You aren't the ones eating all the people in Seattle?" 

The Cullens quickly shook their heads. 

"Do you have any idea who is?"  

"Haven't the faintest. You're welcome to investigate quietly if you like. We like to call ourselves Vegetarians because we only eat wildlife, not humans.  It allows us to stay in one place for years at a time, unlike our brethren.  We don't like the encroachment of our territory  and danger the Seattle newborns pose to our way of living. " Carlise looked straight at the tattooed twenty-somethings while saying this. They seemed to be the more on duty of the quartet. Percy and Annabeth smelled differently and didn't have as many tattoos.  Perhaps Percy and Annabeth weren't Nephilim like their friends, but something Carlise hadn't encountered since the 1800's when he was much more mobile. 

Clary said, "Jace and I will stay in the city for a while and look into the matter." She saw the sun vaguely setting through the thick layer of clouds overhead. " Perhaps we could come back another day to fill out the documentation paperwork. I think we best be heading back to Percy's house."

"You're welcome over anytime. Thank you for working with us.  Alice will see you out."

* authors note: Finally! An! Update! School has started and with it went my free time.

.I just looooovvvvveeee school already

writing this did relieve some stress though...... that in itself is motivation to keep writing
