Chapter three

For the whole week that followed the car crash, I did absolutely nothing, which for me is very unusual. I am a very active person, I can't stay in one place. I play baseball and basketball at my school. I even got accepted on the swim team. I am the skinniest girl out of my friends, but since I hadn't showed up to practice or school in general I gained a lot of weight. I guess that's why I kept getting phone calls that week, and tons of text messages from friends and family members. I even remembered waking up one morning to a missed call from Mrs. Gerald, Andy's mother. I would have answered it but I was too week, too upset to do more than lay in bed with my blanket draping over half of my body and me staring at the walls for hours on end until my mother came up stairs to tell me goodnight or that she was going to work. Even then I was too weak to do much. I didn't even have the energy to throw a glance her way, I just mumbled an "Okay" and listened for the sound of her feet descending the stairs.

"Knock Knock" I heard my mother imitate the sound of the door as she lightly hit her knuckles against the wood of the already open door.

I didn't even turn around, I gave a small "Hello" then closed my eyes again, hoping that maybe she would only be here to tell me she was going to the store. But just like I always did, I jinxed it.

"You have some company. Miranda and Leesha are here to see you"

"Great!" I replied, giving a sarcastic smile to match my answer.

I then sat up and turned my body towards the door and spotted Miranda and Leesha standing aside my mother. Once they got a full look at my face and what had happened to me in only a number of days, their smiles turned into frowns as they gave a horrified look, and I wouldn't have blamed them if part of the reason the frowned was because of the rotting stench that came from under my covers. I hadn't showered in days, never mind brushing my teeth.

They both entered the room with the same horrified look as my mother proceeded to march her way down the stairs. Miranda took a seat at the end of the bed by my feet while Leesha on the other hand sat in a chair that was positioned by my bed.

They shook their heads lightly as they stared at me even more, and I was afraid to say I was beginning to become afraid of the words that might possibly leave their mouths.

Miranda was the first to speak out of her and Leesha.

"Brook, what happened to you?" she asked me as she began looking me up and down.

Of course that would be the first sentence to leave her mouth, after all she was the fashion queen of the school. Everyone loved her and admired her beauty in and out, they even went to her occasionally for fashion advice for dates, dances and big events. Miranda had long perfectly straight bronze hair and her elegant copper eyes that could make you feel like she was staring straight into your soul if you stared in them for a period of time. She was dressed from head to toe in a bubble gum pink t-shirt, a greyish blue jean jacket, brand new skinny jeans and Grey converse with a touch of makeup to her face. I and Leesha were always jealous of her since we had met her in sixth grade.

I chuckled but all the while sighed deeply before looking back up at her. "What do you think? I'm depressed. I hate to admit it but I am."

"We know" Leesha chimed in "But you can't possibly keep living like this"

I was about to open my mouth to say something but Miranda interrupted before I could.

"Yeah. You need to get out of here and see the sunlight for once." she started "You know what?"

"What?" I asked giving a sarcastic raise of the eyebrows, giving her a small hint that I didn't care.

"You need some time away from this place. Let's go out somewhere. Let's go out to that new mall downtown that they rebuilt."

"Yes!" Leesha agreed.

I just raised my eyebrows and shook my head in disagreement. I wasn't up for going out. I wasn't even sure I had the energy to get up and do the normal activity that I used to do before the accident.

Miranda smiled and got up happily along with Leesha.

"Great! We will see you tomorrow at seven then!" she exclaimed.

"W-What-" I started to say.

"No buts or what's, just come tomorrow, okay? Okay!" Miranda said before turning around and making her way back out towards the door and down the stairs.

I sighed deeply, letting out a frustrated groan as I swung myself back down onto my bed and stared at the ceiling, knowing I couldn't win this war. Once Miranda decided something, it was set it stone and wasn't to be changed no matter how much arguing and begging I did.
