Within a week I had almost completed everything that I was supposed to get done, school wise anyways. I had all my essays finished, math homework, gym tests made up and history packet completed. The only thing I had left was to finish reading a book that my English teacher was forcing us to read in class. Everyone else had finished reading the book except me, but I was almost done. Only a few more chapters were left for me to read.
I laid quietly on my bed reading my book, wanting to finish the book up sometime soon. I laid flat on my belly, my feet up in the air and my book wide open as I focused on the words.
My mom and sister had left to go clothes shopping not too long ago and left me here alone. At first my mom had worried about leaving me alone because of my depression and she was afraid of what I might do to hurt myself, but I pushed her out the door and smiled and told her to have fun, that I would be fine on my own and that I would be reading. She hesitated but went anyway, but before she left she told me to call her if I needed anything and that the pizza was on its way to our house.
After eating almost half the box of cheese pizza I stumbled my way upstairs lazily and forced myself onto my bed and began reading.
Looking at my watch on my wrist, I realized I had been reading now for about an hour and a half and already I was tired of reading and bored out of my mind.
I groaned and flopped backwards on my bed, then stared up at my plane white ceiling, intrigued by the marks that were left up there. There were food stains and water stains that had never came off and small marks that had been made by a sharpie or a pen when I was smaller. I frowned, still wondering how I had managed to even get myself up high enough to do something like that.
My phone rang beside me, at first I just looked at it but I eventually picked it up and looked at the caller ID. It was Leesha.
"Hello?" I asked as I picked it up.
"Brook, you will never guess who I got tickets to see!" I heard her squeal loudly on the other line.
"Who?" I sat up and leaned my back against the head board on my bed.
"Cory Ross!"
I nearly dropped my phone as my mouth flew open in shock. Did she actually say 'Cory Ross'? It was hard to believe that someone like him would actually come to a town as small as mine. I Leesha and Miranda had obsessed over him ever since we heard him sing on YouTube. We each had posters of him up on our walls, all of his CD's and the perfume he had created for his fans to wear. She couldn't possibly be serious though, could she?
"Are you serious?" I asked her "You better not be playing with me Leesha. I swear to god that if you-"
"I'm serious, Brook. He's here AND I have three tickets to see him tonight. Would you like to come?"
"OF COURSE!" I shouted louder than I had intentionally meant to. I cleared my throat slightly then lowered my voice "Umm...I mean yeah, why not?"
Leesha giggled, understanding my sudden burst of excitement. "Okay" she said "I'll meet you tonight at your house to pick you up at eight. Is that okay?"
"Yes" I answered.
The rest of the conversation was a blur, I was too focused on thinking of what I wanted to wear tonight to even listen to another word that she spoke. As soon as she hung up, I hurried to get ready.
It was now eight on the dot and I waited anxiously for Leesha to arrive. She arrived not too much later, only five or six minutes late. I hopped into the back seat and smiled at her. She had also invited Miranda, of course, we just couldn't forget her.
