I like romance-centered stories. I really do. They can be fantastically written, fill you up with a cheesy warmth, be incredibly heartbreaking, and make you feel like there's a chance of finding love somewhere in this world.
But you know what?
Romance isn't my favorite genera.
There are a lot of other types of stories I like; spiritual, family-based, friend based, action, comedy, slice of life... There are quite a few. Besides that, there are many other options to choose from. So why is almost every TMNT fic I come across on Wattpad romance-centered?
At first, it seems a pretty easy question to answer; most Wattpad users are either women who are interested in romance and historical fiction stories, fangirls, or both. So, it's only natural that a lot of Wattpad's content is romance-based. However, there is a bit of a deeper answer.
To a lot of people, romance seems a near essential part of life. It can very much make one feel happier than one would be alone. Also, being in a healthy relationship with the one you love can be seen as a 'happily ever after' of sorts for a lot of people. So, it would make sense that we would want our OCs and cannon characters to find romance in each other.
