~Greek Dogs~ The Sun Rises (Book 1)

Prologue- A Dark Starry Night

The day Cadmean Fox arrived, Laelaps knew her destiny was to defeat her, the unbeatable fox, for she was the dog who never failed to capture prey.

Laelaps lived happily by the side of Zeus, Zeus helped control the thunder and rain, and Laylaps kept him happy. Together they where the best of friends, and the day Zeus gave Lae to his son was heartbreaking, but he knew lae would be the best hunting dog for King Minos of Europa. This made the king overjoyed, because Laelaps was the dog who never failed to catch prey, and they where being terrorized by a fox named Cadmean, the fox who was literally impossible to catch, for she had been made to cause distruction forever. Laelaps yawned and trotted over to King Minos one day, sniffing his hand. "Oh Lae! What shall I ever do." He sighed, putting his hand on his forehead. Lae licked his other hand. "Thats it! Lae! You are a genius!" He cried out, looking at the dog, whos tail began to wag. He brought the dog to his friend Cephalus, and he explained his idea of using dogs to hunt the fox. Cephalus said this would never work, but maybe if they used Lae, for she could capture anything. King Minos was afraid for her fate, but decided to try it. Lae wagged her tail as they mounted two horses and rode into the fields, where they found Cadmean the unstoppable vixen. "Oh look, another mutt, when will they realize it is IMPOSSIBLE to capture me!" She laughed. "It won't be impossible, for I shall capture you, I never fail to capture anything." Stated Lae, growling at the fox and going into the position of a pointer to give away where she was hiding. But Cadmean didn't mind, she just sat there and stared at the dog, waiting for Lae to make the first move. Lae charged forward and missed the fox, but she leaped up again and started chasing her all over the feild. The two kept this up for days, always arguing with one another about getting tired, but neither ever did. "I will not give up until the day you are brought down!" Lae often shouted, with the vixens reply being, "Then you are wasting your time, because I have the energy to never stop running!" Zeus sat and watched his dog Laelaps suffer, and this brought him pain. He had to end this, the hard way. He turned Cadmean to stone, but with the pain of having to turn Laelaps to stone as well, for the paradox could never end unless they ended it together. Cadmean was banished to live in the heart of Canis Minor, and for Lae to live in Canis Major. Cadmean spent the rest of her days trapped inside of a star, and she hated every moment of it. She would scratch at the star and kick at it, but she could never leave the jail of inside this star. Zeus gave her one thing to enjoy, and that was she could watch the galaxies pass by, which where amazing.

Laelaps lived in the heart of Canis Major, she sighed and lay against a corner of the star. A bright light apeared after her and Cadmeans 4th day of being trapped, and the light sat next to Lae. "Who are you?" She asked, looking at the brown dog with an amazing star-shaped nose with a brightness brighter than the sun. "I am Sirius, I noticed you where alone and a new star, a new star that completes Canis Major." He smiled, explaining she was important and very pretty and she should not be trapped inside of a star. She blushed and nuzzled him, and they became mates. They ruled Canis Major, but she could never leave her star, for if she did, Cadmean would be freed. Sirius hated this, he hated seeing his love be trapped in a star forever, so he made the mistake of freeing her. Once she was freed, Cadmean was too. Cadmean made a portal from space to earth and left it open. "Sirius! Why have you done this? I will have to hunt her all over again!" Cried out Lae. "No, dear, let her be. It does not matter if you can catch everything, it is more important to me that you are not destined to be trapped in a small room the rest of your life. Lae sighed but agreed. She nuzzled Sirius and touched her nose to his. A bright light flashed, and she appeared on earth, in a fox den, which had been Cadmeans a very long time ago. "Wha.." She said, trying to realize what had happened. She heard whimpering and whinning, and looked to her side, there was 4 puppies. She stood up and went outside, it was pitch black and the stars shown bright, She could easily see Sirius (The Dog Star) as the nose of Canius Major, Canius major seemed to dance in the sky with joy. Lae turned back to the pups in the den and returned to them.
