Three words and eighteen letters are all it takes to make someone feel even worse than they already do.

"We're getting married."

my mother's voice echoes through my head, seemingly going through one ear and out the other. I stared back at her blankly.

There's only one person that she could be marrying. Zack.

It all started in the middle of my freshman year, right after midterms. I was sitting on the window seat at the brew when a tall dirty blonde haired guy sat himself next to me.

"Um, hi?" I said, Acknowledging his presence.

"Hey, I'm Zack" he chimed. Extending his hand towards me.

I shook it and smiled.

"What you reading there?" He said pointing towards the book on my lap.

"The great Gatsby"

"It's actually my favourite." I added.

No that sounded way too nerdy.

"hmm. Beautiful and Smart." He said.

I could feel my cheeks blushing as I looked into his ocean blue eyes.

There was an awkward silence.

"Well I guess I must get going, my bus should be here soon."

I don't take the bus.

"No..no it's pouring down outside, let me take you home." He stood up and beckoned towards the door.

I paused for a moment, evaluating if it was a good idea, I knew it wasn't but I said yes anyways.

We got into his car and drove out of the nearly empty parking lot behind the brew. He shifted to drive and fumbled with the radio for a few moments.

"So, you didn't tell me what your name was." He said, smiling. He really did have a beautiful smile.

"Aria."

He paused for a moment before saying anything/

"Your name."

"its beautiful."

I loved the way he paused after every few words, as if he really cared about what came out of his mouth.

We pulled up in my driveway and he turned off the car.

"I feel like I've been here before.." He said, narrowing his eyes.

I smiled, rolling my eyes.

He turned to face me and stared right into my eyes for several long seconds before he began to learn closer and closer to me.

no, no, no this isn't right.

I awkwardly leaned back, getting further and further away from his face, my hands trying to find the handle. The car was locked. He put his hands on my face and began to bring me closer to him. I pushed, resisting his kiss. He grabbed me closer and forced himself onto me. His face pressed on mine, his lips pressed on mine. His hands pressed on my face. I flailed my hands around trying to get out of his grasp, he was too strong.

He let go. I hit him with a loose hand and jumped out of the lowered window, landing roughly on the paved driveway, cold, scared and with a skinned knee.

He scowled at me and drove off before anyone could see him.

"Aria? Aria? are you still there?" my mother said through the phone. My mother's voice snapped me out of my trance.

"It's almost time up, Montgomery." Said the officer peering at me from the other side of the room. I nodded and pressed the bright orange phone to my ear and stared at my mother from the other side of the bullet proof glass window. She was so close, but so far at the same time. Her hands pressed against the glass. She was free and I was trapped, in the dark and unfurnished cell.

"Why aren't you happy for me?" My mother said, I could practically hear her heart breaking in her voice.

"No mom its not that I am not happy for you, I'm not....I mean I am" I made no sense at all.

"it's just I can't believe they think I am behind all of this, I mean...The murder of my best friend."

I continued to talk, holding the tears back. "If someone doesn't fess up I am going to be put away for good, for my whole life. "I am going to be put on death row"

A tear rolled down my mother's cheek.

"I know baby, I know you didn't do anything. Just keep tight and we will get you out."

"I promise."

"It's time to go Montgomery." Said the officer as he pulled the phone away from me.

I needed to tell her.

"No, please just one second." I said as her pulled me away from the botoh.

My mother was crying on the other side, watching as the officer took me away.

"Mom! Mom!" I said as I tried to push the officer away.

I could see a glimpse of her over the officer's shoulder.

"Mom!" I yelled again, even though I knew she couldn't hear me.

"I love you."

There was a small clock on the wall in my cell, a cheap mattress like thing that is probably supposed to be a bed on the other and small metallic toilet, there was no privacy whatsoever.

A young woman pushed open the door and walked up to my holding cell, she smiled slightly. The features on her face where a lot larger than they should be.

"I'm here to bring you to questioning." She smiled, her gleaming eyes seemed to stare into my soul.

"I don't need an escort, I'm not going to make a run for it..out of this hell hole." I said sarcastically, walking past her.

"Come on Aria, your mother wouldn't be happy if you had to stay here any longer, your sopossed ot be the bridesmaid remember?" She smirked, swinging the keys of my cell in her hnd as we walked down the hall.

I stopped in my tracks.

"How do you know that?" I cursed.

"Aria, do you really think those phone calls are private." She said without looking at me.

We reached the interrogation room, the woman beckoned me to sit down.

"I'm pretty sure you know why your here." She said, folding her arms.

"Yeah I think I get the idea." I hissed.

"You're being charged with the murder of Alison Dilaurentis."

I remember in my early freshman year, spending spring break with Allison. We would go out to the beach and flirt with the older boys, I remember the time when we got followed home by one of her older boy-stalkers, I remember going to hundreds of concerts with her.

I loved her but I hated her at the same time.

Could I have really done that to her?
