That Moment When...

Prussia's (Gilbert's) POV

I tried to grab for him, practically flinging myself over the edge, but it was too late. "Canada!" I shouted in vain. He was gone. I looked over the cliffs edge laying on my stomach, growing dizzy from the height. The bottom was at least a hundred miles away, I could see where we walked, but there was a small ledge, about 50 feet below, where Canada lay. I had no idea if he hit his head. Hell, I had no idea if he was even alive! But I had to get down there.

My eyes darted everywhere, searching for a way down. Rope would've been extremely useful in this situation. I saw that Canada's polar bear cub was looking over the edge too, looking like he was about to cry. "Don't worry," I whispered, not even sure if I could keep my promise, "I'm going to get him." His black, beady eyes looked into mine, and what I saw was fear. Fear of being orphaned again. I wasn't going to let that happen.

My eyes had just scanned a pattern. There was a way I could half climb, half walk down there. It was risky, but the safest route. I was ready to take the chance. I quickly hopped up, adrenaline pumping through my veins. Running to the start of the path I made with my mind, I began taking shaky step after shaky step, my heartbeat drumming in my ears.

I pushed pressure into every step before I put my full weight on it, fully aware that one mistake can get me to fall to my demise. At one point, when I was testing a rocks trustworthiness, it crumbled away, and I almost fell anyway. A large root was revealed, and I grabbed that just before I could tumble down. Quickly pulling myself up and pausing for a recovery, I continued my way. I bravely took steps forward, jumping when I needed to, and climbing when required. Finally, after what seemed like days, I jumped on the ledge Canada was on and immediately rushed to him.

"Canada." I breathed, "Canada, are you okay?"

No response.

I held his face, "Canada!" I called yearning for a reaction.

Keine Antwort.

"Matthew! Matthew please!"

Finally, a moan came from him, making my heart ease. "You... You should call me that more often."

I exhaled in relief and wrapped my arms around him, "Oh thank God, Matthew. Thank God you're okay." What if I lost him? What if he died?

"Everyone is capable of love."

I blinked, a single salty bead escaping and rolling down my cheek, leaving a cold trail. It stung.

It's there.

How could I think I wasn't capable of love?

Matthew sat up, embracing me back. "It's okay, Gilbert," he said in his hushed quiet voice, "I'm okay."

What could I do without him?

Everyone can love. Everyone has love. For some, it's easily shown. Those people are lucky. For others, it's like it doesn't exist. Although it might not seem like it, everyone has love in their hearts. It may be hidden, may be invisible, but like always, It's there. No matter what.

That weekend, we went back to Matthew's house, but unfortunately, he gained a minor concussion, giving him difficulty with regular tasks. It took him a little while to respond to orders, or sometimes he'd do silly things like put coffee grounds in his creme, but I'm glad he didn't have one of those 'forget everyone temporarily' concussions.

After a lot of thinking -cough(and some advice from France)cough-, I decided I needed to take action.

We finally ended this months World Meeting, after a long 3 hours. All the nations stretched and chatted, but my eyes were looking for Matthew. I finally spotted him, giving a long sigh as he pushed in his chair. He brushed his golden locks away from his intense cobalt eyes and adjusted his glasses.

I approached him with a grin, "Hey Matthew!"

His face lit up, "Gilbert! How are you?"

I patted Kumajiro, whom approved of me after the visit to the mountain. He gave a happy growl and jumped out of Matthew's arms, only to take a seat in a chair and socialize with Gilbird. "I'm fine really, I just wanted to ask you something."

He raised an eyebrow. I'm sure he knew what was coming.

"Do you... maybe want to go out for dinner sometime?" I barely could get myself to say it. What would he think?

He raised his eyebrows in surprise, "Like... a date?"

My heart was beating faster than I wanted, but I forced myself to tolerate it. I took his hand, giving a smirk before planting a kiss, "Yes. One where we could have some time together."

I watched as heat spread throughout his face. He looked from my lips, to his hand, and back to my face. "Wh-Wh- I don't know what to..."

"Don't tell me you're only into women." I say, almost disappointed.

"N-No! It's not that! It's just..." He closed his eyes and took a deep breathe. "Do I have to tell you now?"

"Absolutely."

And there goes his attempts to stay calm. "What!?"

I winked, "You can't keep a man waiting."

He blinked, bewildered at my impatience. After a few more deep breathes, he gave me his answer. "Yeah, let's go out sometime."

I smiled. I wanted to kiss him, but the stares of other nations decided against it. There'll be plenty of time for that later.

We began walking out of the building, a few of our friends following us. The rest of the Bad Touch Trio joined in, congratulating me, teasing Matthew once in a while, then back to me. America and Cuba were talking to Matthew, but there was always something America did that pissed off Cuba, causing God forbid chaos. While everyone was distracted, I laced my fingers through Matthew's hand. He jumped, surprised at the motion, and looked at me. I only smiled and went back to talking with France and Spain, our hands still connected.

After everyone had left home, me and Canada were left alone outside.

"How does tomorrow sound to you?" I asked.

He gave a warm smile, "Of Course."

"Brother!" I heard Germany approach us, "You better hurry up if you want a way home!"

"Patience is virtue!" I shouted back.

Germany grunted and walked back to the plane. "Hurry up!"

I snickered. Matthew was about to leave, but I quickly put a hand on his shoulder. Before he could know what was coming, I spun him around and laid my lips against his. I felt him tense up at realization, but then quickly relax. After we separated, I commented, "Feels more natural when we're both sober, huh?"

His eyes widened, his face red with embarrassment, "Wait! I thought you forgot!"

I shook my head, "I wouldn't forget a kiss between me and you." I patted him on the shoulder, "Tomorrow night! Bye!" Then I ran off, leaving a flustered Matthew to his thoughts.

*Rolls credits*

Nah, I'm just joking. There isn't a single smutty line in this fic and I can't just leave it like that. I wouldn't dare neglect my story, much less my readers with such a thing.

Lol I love how my chapter "on top" got more views because of the title XD I purposely do that and then make the smuttie chapters have normal titles. Bish you gonna have to read my fic if you want that diddly do action!

Anyways, sorry for the long weight. That was on purpose just because I'm an asshole who loves to leave people hanging over a cliff. Your most welcome.
