Warm sunlight streamed into my room. Dad walked in, rapping loudly on the wooden bed-frame. I slept through the knocks. Agitated, dad yanked the covers off.

"Hnnn.." I moaned.

"Get up, you have school." Said dad.

He said nothing else and walked away. Father rarely said anything to me these days.

Mom died last year while driving me to my riding lesson in the rain..is it my fault?.. I thought.

Enough, Cassie.

I jumped out of bed, threw on my dressage boots, cream breeches, and a light blue and white checkered shirt. I tied my smooth caramel hair into a long pony-tail and went downstairs for breakfast.
