After our cooldown, I dismounted and lead Charm to the water trough, waiting for dad to show me his 'surprise'. I sure hope it's a puppy. I loooove puppies. While we waited, Charm sucked up the refreshing substance. Charm finished, nudging me. I looked up and saw dad walking a horse. My eyes widened and I jogged Charm over to meet them halfway. He strode next to a sorrel stallion, his head held high, his nostrils quivering.
"Dad, is that y-" He cut me off.
"Yes, he's mine." He looked down, then back at me, shifting his gaze. "You were right, kiddo. It was stupid. And I'm sorry to make you suffer along with me, too. It wasn't fair to you or the horses. Especially the horses.."
I ran and hugged dad, Charm glaring at my for yanking her head around.
"I love you, Dad." After a few seconds, I broke the hug. I smirked at the stallion, who was curiously peering at me and Charm with big brown eyes.
"Who's this handsome stallion?" I asked.
He patted the stallion's muscled neck. "This here is Apollo. I'm gonna neuter him, so soon he'll be a gelding." He laughed. "No foals for you, Apollo." We laughed for the longest time, even though it wasn't even that funny.
"Race you," I challenged with a grin.
He narrowed his eyes, smiling.
"You're so on!" He chuckled. He swung up on Apollo, and the stallion pranced excitedly. He knew they were gonna race.
He patted Apollo's neck, smirking at me. "It's time we show you and your show horse what speed really is!"
"HA! You wish!" I laughed.
I kicked Charm into a trot, then a gallop. Apollo did the same.
Here we are. Together, happy.
And to me, that's all that matters.
