I called him the minute I got back. After two weeks out of town, I missed him. I was ready to come out. Now that my jerk ex-boyfriend and I had officially broken up, I could reveal my other relationship.
He agreed to meet me here, tonight. I haven't told my parents or little sister I'm back. Normally my best friend would be the first to know, but she's not my friend anymore. I don't know who is.
When your father is a Senator, a rich and influential one, you're bound to make enemies. I've known that since I learned to talk. But I never thought the betrayal would come from someone close to me, someone I trusted.
Finally I saw his car, a white Volvo with the paint chipping. I ran to meet him. The wind whipped my blond hair about, ruining my hair style. There was a time when I would have cared, a time not so long ago. Now I was just too relieved that there was still someone who actually loved me.
First he got out of his car, shutting the door behind him. Second he embraced me, passionately.
Third he pulled a gun on me.
I stared at the pistol. He must have had it in his hand. I had been too busy watching his face to notice his hands. I was so stupid.
"I'm sorry, Raven," he says quietly, "but you have to die. There's no other way."
Then there was a great pain and darkness enclosed me.
