Life is wonderful. I couldn't be happier. I have the perfect boyfriend, my dream job, and my future is looking great.
I lay on my bed smiling while I think about how much I love my life. I flip over onto my side and notice a picture of me and Ayden when we were 8 and 9 on my bedside table. My smile begins to disappear as I remember that day.
"Brook! Brooooooookyyy!!" Ayden called out to me. I was hiding in our fort that we had built in our super secret hangout that no one was allowed to know about. A tear ran down my cheek. My first heartbreak. I didn't want Ayden to see me like this, so I sat quietly with my head buried in my knees.
I felt a gentle tap on my shoulder. "Brooklyn?" Ayden asked, before sitting down next to me and putting his arm around me. "What?" My voice cracked. "What happened? What's wrong Brooky?" Ayden poked my side making me smile for a second. "Don't do that, I don't like it." I said, popping my head up and pushing Ayden away.
"You were crying!" Ayden exclaimed
"Yeah, so what?"
"But why?"
"No reason. Go away.""Who do I need to beat up?" Ayden asked while popping his knuckles. "Joshua Blake!" I yell before bursting into tears again. "I'll be right back..." Ayden told me, before leaving our fort.
He didn't come back for another hour, but when he did, he had an ice cream cone with four scoops of my favorite rocky road ice cream, and his mom's Polaroid camera. I jumped up and hugged him, and grabbed the ice cream out of his hand.

I had just finished my ice cream, and it was all over my face. He put his arm around me, and took the picture before I was ready. It is the funniest picture, and I love it. To this day I have no idea if he actually beat up Joshua Blake. That stupid boy, crushing an 8 year olds dreams of going on an ice skating date. But Ayden made me feel better. He always knew how to do that. I miss him.
My thoughts are interrupted by Not a Bad Thing by Justin Timberlake, Jaxson's ringtone. The guy I should be thinking about. The one I have a real future with. I grab my phone and answer his call. "Hey Jax. What's up?"
"Wanna go out tonight babe?" He asks.
"Of course! Where are we going?"
He chuckles. "Not telling, sorry babe. Dress nice."We talk for a few more minutes figuring out times and where to meet. After we hang up, I jump up to get ready for work. "Black or grey pants today, Brooky?" I ask myself. I decide on grey pants with a blouse in a beautiful shade of blue. I head to the kitchen to grab some breakfast, knowing Jaxson would be over soon to walk with me to work. I settle for a blueberry muffin and a cup of tea.
I sat down on the couch just as there was a knock at the door. "Coming!" I call, as I rush to grab a cute dress with flowers and sparkles all over it for tonight, and shove it in my purse. Running to the door, I realize I forgot my tea, and I ran back to get it. Jaxson knocked again. "Hang on Jaxson!" I yell. "Come on Brooklyn! You're going to make me late!" He replied. I rush to grab the rest of my things. Just as I run out the door, Jaxson grabs my waist and I squeal, not expecting it. He laughed and gave me a kiss. "Come on babe." He said, grabbing my hand and leading me down the hall of my apartment building.
Ayden (Current)
"Crap" I think to myself. "8:55am, right on time." I watch out the window as Brooklyn and her, whatever he is, make their way over to the building across the street. "Dude, for real man, you dumped her. Stop thinking about her!" My best friend and co-worker, Chase says as he snaps at my face. "Thanks for reminding me that I lost the girl of my dreams because I was a freaking idiot." I punch him on the arm. "I've known her forever, I can't just forget about her."
"It's been years Ayden, you gotta forget at some point." Chase says, making me upset. "Whatever." I say under my breath. "DUDE!" Chase yells, startling me. He moves my head to face the window. "What dude? Stop." I push his hands off my face. "Did you see that? She was totally looking over here! You shoulda seen her face, it looked so depressed or something." Chase told me, while trying to copy the face she had made. "Stop, you look nothing like her. Wait, was she really? Do you think she misses me? Why are you telling me this? Are you just being a jerk?" I say, realizing he is probably tricking me.
"Come on, I know how you feel about her. I'm not that cruel." Chase punches me. "She was looking for me... Does she miss me?" I shake my head. "Stop torturing yourself Ayden. Stop it." I go back to work trying, and failing, to stop thinking about her, and why she was looking at me.
Later the same day
I plop down onto my bed, exhausted after the longest day ever. I just wanted to get home so I could think. I grab my laptop and start looking through old pictures of Brooklyn and I. "What am I supposed to do!?" I whine. "What did you say Ayden?" My mom yelled from the other room. "Nothing, sorry mom!" I reply.
My favorite picture of Brooklyn came up on my screen. It was from my Junior prom. I know, cheesy. But she wore this amazing pink dress, and her beautiful brown hair was put up all fancy. Her green eyes sparkled all night long. I kept begging to take a picture of her, and she finally let me. She looked at me with a shy smile on her face, and I snapped this picture. She was beautiful. She is still beautiful. I sniffled and shut my laptop really hard. "You will not cry Ayden Bryan. You did this to yourself." I told myself.
I get up and head to the kitchen to grab a snack, hoping that it'll help me get my mind off of things, and her. Of course, it doesn't. Go figure right? I finish eating a waffle, and I head back to my room, and pass out on my bed.
