MY PHONE rang loudly, nearly giving me a heart attack. I opened my eyes and allowed them time to adjust to the darkness. I reached for my phone. "Hello?," I answered, my voice bathed in slumber.
"... Hey? I was just calling you to see how your first day went." It was my sister. I let out a sigh and pinched the bridge of my nose to keep an onsetting migrane at bay. "Hey, Rach. I'm grateful for your concern, but did you have to call me in the middle of the night?"
"Um, Lin, it's nine fifteen a.m."
No
I jumped up and went over to the window. Before I could pull apart the ivory coloured curtains I saw the small beams of light streaming through. I yanked them apart hastily and suddenly I was faced to face with the morning sun. Crap. I only remembered that my sister was still on the other line when I heard the faint buzzing of her voice coming from my phone which I had let slip away from my ear. I pressed the device to the the side of my face.
"Listen Rach. I gotta go, I'm beyond late for class."
I hung up with out giving her a chance to reply. I dressed quicker than lightning strikes. Light blue jeans, black tank top, black high top Converse. I put my hair up in a messy bun, I threw my satchel over my shoulder, grabbed my laptop and sprinted half a mile across campus. Finally cross country pays off. I entered the choir room with my head down. The chairs had been moved again so instead of being able to cut down the middle isle I had to walk all the way to the other side of the room and take those stairs down and walk all the way to the front of the class to cut up the middle.
When I took my seat, I could see the smirk on Logan's face: he was prepared to to say something smart, but I held up my hand to let him know that I was in no mood.
I took out my music. My entire body was aching with exhaustion and the language of written mmusic was suddenly foreign to me. I looked at the girl to my left, a pretty strawberry blonde with big blue eyes, freckles, and a pouted mouth. Her threaded eyebrows were knitted together in solicitude. Has she been staring at me this whole time? I smiled vaguely at her and she widened her eyes.
"What?," I asked.
Apparently we had already gone over two pieces of music, and the entire time I was flipping back and forth between two pages of a piece of music we hadn't even started yet. So yeah, to say the least, I was pretty out of it

When I woke up, class had ended and the room was completely empty. It took me a minute or two to realise where i was but when I finally came to I couldn't help wonder why no one bothered to wake me when class ended, I sat there for an entire minute before I decided it was time to leave- I know that may not seem like a long time but can you imagine? Some checked out lunatic siting there, not blinking, barely breathing, ready to tip over. I heard noise coming from the director's office and I snapped out of it.
He walked out and he was not alone: he was with two other students of his one was a short Philippino girl with long wavy brown hair.
"I'll see you later Dr. Ward." He returned with a friendly, "Bye, Cameron." She walked up the steps at the far end of the classroom and out of the room.
I looked to see who the other person was. Logan. Fantastic. Clearly god was punishing me for something. I tried to get up and flee before he noticed that I was still there but my body didn't listen when my brain told it to move.
He looked up at me as I fought against gravity and attempted to lift myself to my feet.
They both looked at me funny and Logan began walking in my direction. By the time he reached me, I was still struggling to synchronize my mind and body.
