Jack and jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water, jack fell down and broke his crown and jill went tumbling after.
*************
I once thought of jack and jill to be another innocent nursery rhyme untill I heard the legends. Jack and jill were just another pair of twins who did everything together, until the fateful day of the poor young childrens demise. They had been going in a normal routine of visiting the local well at least four times a week so not to ever run out of fresh water at home. This is how it went jack and jill would go up the hill to fetch a pail of water. They then would return home and pour there collected water into a large collection trough. All was well on the morning they were destined to die. They skipped up the hills muddy trail with pails in there chubby pale hands, only difference being that unlike the many other times the young children had merrily skipped up the dirt trail jacks foot slips in the thick sludgey mud and he falls down. He lands on his face and roles to a painfully impressive stop at the foot of the hill. "Brother jack be you alright?" Jill asks in a poetic way as she carefully makes her way to his side he dose not move nor dose the limp boy respond. "Jack you can get up now" jill lulls softly as she places a hand on her limp lifeless brothers shoulder she roles him onto his back to see his face only to find poor young jack had blood cascading from both a deep crack in his skull and his right eye, the eye which now housed a long jagged stick the ground was slowly going from muddy to holding up a small puddle of jacks blood. Jill, surging with fear and horror panics and lifts the young boy by his armpits and drags his body to the well. She heaved and huffed as she poured all her strength into dumping the mutually broken body of jack down the deep well it topples and plummets down before making a satisfactory splosh as it lands at the bottom and in the water. Jill stands looking over the edge of the low walls of the brick well twitching and shaking as her brothers on glassy dead eye stares up at her as his body floats around the surface showing how much more mutilated his body had become on impact before it lifelessly sinks to the bottom of the appearently deep water. Jill turns on her heal and makes her way to the river to fill her pail. She then calmly strolls home to her farmhouse as she thinks over what had just happened "jill jack your home?" Mother had called out from the kitchen jill walks in "just me mama and soon it will only be me"jill says in quite and chilling voice "hmm what was that honey where is jack?" Her mother asks innocently looking up from the pot of stew on the stove. "Jack he went for a swim and will be back later"she says stretching the truth and poring a few little lies in amongst her words. "Ok as long as he comes home before dark"her mother says never removing the stew from her sigh jill pours the river water into the supply "mama would you like a drink?" She stoicly asks "yes thank you dear"her mother replies she dips an earthen mug in to the water and then pulls it out half full setting it down she tops it up with a cap of one of many poisons I had plucked from the shelf on the way through to here. As she drinks it I do another one for father. Finnishing his off a thud can be heard from the kitchen "good night papa tell mama and jack I loved them" I say the insanity finally showing.
