Carrie POV

I stare at Danny in shock. Lyle growls and I stutter over my words.

"W-wait, what?" I ask. Danny clears his throat while Lyle's grip on my thigh tightens.

"Well, I read up on the whole werewolf thing, then I talked to Sally. After getting confirmation that everything you said was true I felt like a total idiot. You dropped out of school so I couldn't apologize to you. I asked Sally where you were and she told me you were here. I guess I was too late," Danny says. He sighs and looks to the floor.

"Damn right you're too late. After you rejected me the moon goddess gave me a new mate. Lyle and I have our moments but he's my mate now, not you Danny," I say angrily. Lyle stands up and exits the room, angry with Danny's intrusion. Danny looks me in the eyes.

"Is he really all that great? I can see bruises on you Carrie. I can see how damaged you are being here. Open up to me. Please," Danny pleads. I shake my head with tears in my eyes.

"I can't, Danny I can't," I say and stand up, turning toward the doorway.

"What happened to your back?" Danny asks. My tank top did nothing to conceal the puffy pink scars from my lashings that Lyle inflicted upon me a few days ago. Danny walks over to me and places a finger on one of the scars. He traces it, and I whimper slightly. "Carrie, what happened?"

"He was abusive when we first discovered we were mates. H e stopped abusing me a few days ago. But earlier today he-he," I sob.

"He what?" Danny asks, getting angry.

"He cheated on me," I let out between sobs. Danny takes me in his arms and hugs me close as I cry.

"I'm sorry Carrie, this is my fault. If I would've listened to you this wouldn't have happened," he says.

"I know, but it's over and done with. Lyle becomes Alpha tomorrow and I become Luna the day after. It's what the moon goddess has chosen for me," I say and push myself from Danny's arms. I wipe my eyes and sniffle.

"Carrie, I'm going to win you back. If it's the last thing I do," Danny says.

"Mine!" Lyle yells as he storms into the room. I yelp as he throws Danny against the wall. "Stay away. She's mine."

"So abusing her and cheating on her is how she's supposed to be treated?" Danny asks.

"I don't abuse her anymore. And that whore Arianna meant nothing and that was a mistake," Lyle growls. Danny walks to the door.

"I'll get her back. I promise," he says and leaves. Lyle looks at me with anger filled eyes and I whimper.
