The Rejection

Chapter Twenty Six

I stand there, shocked and happy tears streaming down my face. I open my mouth to speak, but am interrupted by a voice at the back of the crowd.

"Carrie!" I look over and see Danny. I roll my eyes and ignore him. "Don't say yes!" The whole pack is looking at him now. Lyle is fuming. I look at him and place a hand on his shoulder. I take the ring out of the box and slip it on my finger. He smiles.

"Yes, I'll marry you," I say. The pack cheers and Danny looks at me with hurt spread across his face. I think I see a tear roll down his cheek. As Lyle and I walk down the stage steps hand in hand the pack crowds around us and congratulates us. Danny disappears amongst the crowd.

Lyle kisses me and we make our way back to the pack house. We get to our room and I sit on the bed.

"Wait here, I have another surprise for you," Lyle says and exits the room. Beast jumps on my lap and I scratch behind his ears. At this moment Danny bursts into the room.

"What are doing here? Why are you here?" I ask angrily.

"Carrie, please. You know we're made for each other. Do you really want to be with that abusive prick for the rest of your life?" He asks, standing in front of me. I see Beast down and stand up, we're face to face.

"We're not mates anymore! You had your chance and you ruined it! He's my mate now, abusive or not! Stay out of my life and stop trying to ruin my happiness!" I yell at him, taking my hands and pushing them flat against his shoulders. He stumbles backward and looks at me in shock. His shock turns to sadness. "This is your fault!"

"Fine. Whatever. I'll go. Have a nice life," he says and exits the room. At this point Lyle enters, a small present in his hands. He looks at me, his eyes a mix of emotions.

"Did you hear that?" I ask, embarrassed.

"I did love and I'm sorry for all I've done to you. I feel like shit and hope I can be better for you in the future," he says, handing me the gift. I open the small box. Inside is a set of diamond earrings and a necklace that was a silver chain with a big square sapphire hanging from it. I gasp and smile.

"Oh Lyle! I love it!" I exclaim. He grins.

"Its for you to wear on our wedding day," he says. I set the box on the bed and hug him.

"I love you," I whisper. He kisses the top of my head.

"I love you too princess," he says. Beast yips and I pick him up. I smile as my ring catches the light. I kiss Lyle.

"When do you wanna get married love?" I ask.

"I think we can have it here next week before you take your place as Luna," he replies. I smile.

"Sounds perfect."
