It's My Fault

If I had never turned back time, to reverse what happened, you'd be okay.

If I hadn't done it time after time, only for the same yet slightly altered ending, you'd be okay.

I would give it all up to keep you safe, yet nothing works.

It's my fault, so I turned it all back.

To the day we met.

But before meeting you, I met with the time keeper of the land, who had cursed me.

"I will trade my life and soul in exchange for hers, so please, accept,"

I had begged, and the cruel Time Keeper accepted.

So before we entered the place where impending doom resided, I had looked at you in tears.

"Our dream ended long ago. All of our stories and glory are dear to me. I love you so much,"

I cried into your shoulder, telling you it all. You smiled lightly and kissed my cheek.

You told me to not worry and it would be okay, we would be together.

It was a lie, but it made me feel better.

As I lay there, holding you close to me, I was fearful of what was to come.

I did not want to leave you, but I knew this was the only way.

"I love you, and I don't regret protecting you..,"

I breathed out, tears threatening to spill, as you shut your eyes in anguish.

"P-Please... Remember me," I whispered, as I closed my eyes for the last time.
