The footsteps in the snow were bloodied and warm. They were rushed as though the runner feared for their life. And they did.
"Please come back! It's cold out there, and I'll warm you up. Please, don't be afraid of me," A husky voice said, voice cracking in desperation to catch this person.
The catcher had blood splattered on their clothes, fresh. Their legs ached but they could not stop.
"I left the others behind! The thought of killing you, makes me feel ill. You'll be safe with me. I promise!," The husky voice yelled out again, the snow crunching below their feet.
The runner stopped for a short breath, their wound re-opening, and blood trickling down their leg. They couldn't move much further. Maybe, the runner thought, maybe the catcher will keep their word?
"I captured you once, and I know I wasn't quite right, but I promise you'll be safe with me. My weapons are at my home! I won't be able to hurt you," The catcher cooed, finally approaching the bleeding and paralyzed runner.
The runner's heart pounded loudly as the catcher wrapped their arm around the other's shoulder in an attempt to keep them warm.
Suddenly the scene changed. The catcher did not smile and dropped the runner. The runner looked up in fear as the catcher grabbed a near by rock.
The catcher fell to his knees as the cold captured them in its grasp. The runner no longer moved as the catcher gently hugged them, whispering apologies over and over again.
"Please look at me again! I'm so sorry. I lied. I'm a liar," The catcher whispered, desperate as the more blood that has soaked them, kept them warm.
The catcher carried a limp and no longer breathing runner to their home. Everything is silent aside from the crunching of the snow below the catcher's feet. The home was empty now, not a trace left of any human company. The catcher buried the runner in the snow, changed their clothing and left his home, along with everything else.
"I know I'm a wolf. Don't remind me," The catcher said aloud, lighting a cigarette on their way to the train station.
What was their relation? Why did this happen? No one truly knows, except the catcher and the runner.
