Chapter 5.

I sighed because I was once again escorted to the slammer but this time, I had a jail buddy with me. I smirked and snorted when Minho and Newt went to Gally and inform him of the punishment that we were getting. His face was hilarious; It was beet red and not to mention, really satisfying to see. And after a while of ranting , grumbling and threshing like a five year old, he finally sat down and listen to Minho's presentation of the punishment.

I was briefed back in the room of the punishment by Minho so it wasn't much of a surprise to me but for Gally, it seems to me that he had the shock of his life. "So basically, you'll not eat for three days and only water is allowed. Running in the maze starts in the morning and until the door closes for both of you. I'll give you the maps so try not to lose yourself."

"We don't have guide? Like someone running with us? We could get lost in there shank!" Gally started hyperventilating and to be honest, I kind of pity him but I decided to keep my pity for him at bay because this is just his not so jerk moments and once he goes back to his egoistic and barbaric self, he will be fine. And I'm not really looking forward to running in the maze with him.

"You are given an option to stick with one another and complete the run together or do it alone shank." Newt said and looked at me but I snapped my head away, a clear indication of not wanting to run with Gally. "What if I got lost in there? Would someone go look for me?" Now Gally just sound like a wimp. "Just follow the map dimwit." I said and Gally frowned at me, his pupils shaking.

Gally was about to open his mouth and spoke again but was shut by Newt. "Okay, time to go to the slammer shuckfaces." Newt announced and Gally continued grumbling on the way to the slammer, at night and all the way until sun rise. I hardly caught a wink of sleep because of the nervous rambles Gally had made all night.

Minho was the first to come and he let us out the slammer, handing us the gears and map for running. Oddly, this was supposed to be terrifying but I was excited instead. I mean, this punishment was a near to banishment kind of punishment because we have to finish up the rounds assigned to us in the maze and returned before the door closes for three days without food. According to others, running in the maze for a newbie without a veteran guide is suicidal and not to mention, without the energy provided by food, most would say that Gally and I was bound to be dead.

And then there was also the issue of Grievers roaming around the maze in the day so I guess most were just waiting to see the result of today and if we can actually return safely. "You know they are just sending us out here to die." Gally suddenly whispered to me and I flinched away, slightly shock by his sudden attempt of being all talkative in a not jerk manner to me.

"It's not death but a chance to redeem ourselves from the trouble we've caused." I breathed. I kept my voice soft because I didn't want to have a repercussion of yesterday's horrible pain in my throat. "The trouble you've caused." Gally argued and I stared at him. "I don't see how helping you to rearrange your face is a trouble. I think I did you a favour there by fixing your nose." I smirked and poked his nose. "Now you looked better." He winced and glowered at me.

Minho chuckled a little with his back facing us. I knew he was eavesdropping on our conversation and it seems to me, he is quite enjoying our little bicker. Minho halted right in front of the door and turned to look at us with an apologetic look. "I'd like to help but you know, it's not my business to intrude." Minho smiled a little too happy and I could hear Gally's breath quickened beside me.

"Can't we just do this together greenie?" Gally asked out of a sudden, leaning dangerously close to my face and I immediately took a step back, frowning at him. I was ready to reject him but I saw his hands were trembling and his face was drained of all colours. For a moment, I wavered. "Fine but you'll follow exactly what I say. No arguments or I'm leaving you behind." I stated. Gally's hand shot upwards, seemingly about to give me a pat on the head or something too amiable for the both of us. I glared at him and he stopped whatever he was about to do and nodded, "Good that."
