I sat upright in my bed and I pushed my sweaty hair out of my face. I slipped out of bed and walked to the bathroom across the hall from my room.
“What a weird dream,” I muttered to myself as I turned the shower on.
I had a quick shower and headed back to my room so I could change. I was going to my friend Emma’s house today, we were working on the song that I was writing. I shovelled breakfast into my mouth while gulping down a cup of tea. I headed back upstairs and brushed my teeth quickly after that I grabbed the keys to my Mercy Sable.
“Bye mum,” I yelled.
“Have a good day,” she replied.
I was out the door before I could reply. I drove through the city with my stereo blasting, I loved music and that’s a trait I shared with my best friends Emma and Steph. I was curious to know if Steph was going to be there, I hoped she was because she made me laugh when the lyrics I had written frustrated me.
What about Haley? A voice inside of me asked.
Ah Haley, the one that managed to keep everyone calm. Haley loved science and she wants to be a pharmacist when she finished school. I did hope that Haley was at Emma’s today because things could get hectic if she wasn’t around. I pulled up in front of the apartment building that Emma lived in.
Emma’s parents were loaded and they brought her this apartment for her eighteenth birthday. I grabbed my bag out of the car and locked the door. I walked into the lobby and I immediately felt like I didn’t belong. A woman walked past me in Jimmy Choo shoes, shooting me dirty look as she looked at what I was wearing. I looked down at my jeans and All Star Converse sneakers, I was curious to know how Emma handled the stares as she wore the same thing as me.
I rode the elevator to the fifth floor and I stepped out walking towards room 5B. I knocked on the door and waited for Emma to open up. When the door swung open I saw Emma standing there smiling at me, behind her I could see Steph lounging on the couch with Haley sitting next to her.
“Hey Lexi,” Emma greeted me.
“Ems,” I replied.
Emma moved back and made room for me to walk into her apartment. It was so beautiful in here. A modern looking couch sat against the wall and a glass coffee table sat in front of it, a plasma TV hung on the wall with an expensive looking stereo beneath it. The lounge room led to a balcony that overlooked the ocean. I looked out the glass doors and I could see boats moving sluggishly across the horizon.
I moved across the room and sat in an armchair, placing my bag onto the ground. I took out the lyrics I was working on when Emma stopped me.
“Not today Lexi,” she said.
“Why not?” I asked.
“We’ve been working so hard and I thought that we could have a break today,” Emma replied.
We have been working so hard on getting the lyrics completed. I put them back into my bag and leaned back into the chair.
“So what’s the plan then?” I asked.
Emma and Steph exchanged glances then looked back at me.
“Did you bring money?” Steph asked.
I rolled my eyes. “Don’t I always. So what are we doing? ”
