Flashback: Luke
There he was. Talking to a football player named Calum Hood and the boy hosting the party, Ashton Irwin. But I wasn't here for them. I toyed with the drink in my hand nervously as I locked eyes with him.
Michael Clifford.
I felt a blush creep into my cheeks as he gave me a small smile.
I looked down at my shoes and snuck glances at him.
He had such nice hair. It looked soft. I wish I could touch it. And his eyes, they were the prettiest green eyes I had ever seen. His smile was so cute and he had a small button nose and he was just overall so cute.
I mentally slapped myself.
Boys aren't supposed to like other boys.
It's not normal.
Is it?
I couldn't help but state at him.
Boys don't like boys.
Boys don't like boys.
Boys don't like boys.
But no matter how much I pounded that sentence into my mind, it magically disappeared when I saw his pretty green eyes.
I looked up to see him walking my way.
No. No. No. Go away.
He stopped a few feet away from me with a confused look on his face.
"I'll go away. Sorry."
"No!" I blurted out.
"I mean, uhm, never mind. I don't want you to go away."
He grinned a little bit.
"You're weird."
I frowned.
"In a good way."
He was looking at me.
"Oh."
"So what's your name?"
"Hemmings."
"Hemmings? That's an odd name."
"No. Shoot. I mean that's my last name. My name is Luke."
He chuckled.
It was music to my ears.
"Well hello Luke."
The way he said my name brought butterflies to my stomach.
"I'm Michael."
"I know."
Shoot.
His eyes lit up.
"Oh really? You know who I am? Are you my stalker?" He laughed.
I laughed along nervously.
"Of course not."
That was a lie.
I knew a lot about him. I creeped on his Facebook page all the time.
I knew he was an only child and he loved video games and the band All Time Low and he liked Eminem and he wants to dye his hair black. His middle name is Gordon and he hates it. He loves Guitar Hero and is learning to play guitar. He also likes to sing a little. He has a beautiful voice.
I was snapped back into reality when he started speaking again.
"Well Luke, we should hang out sometime, yeah?"
Is this real life? The most beautiful boy I had ever seen wants to hang out with me?
"Uh yeah sure." I gave him a small smile.
"Cool. Well uh, I'm gonna go back to my friends. Find me on Facebook. We can plan something, okay?"
I nodded. "Okay." I said but he was already walking back to his friends.
I sighed, turning away from him.
This really just happened.
I smiled.Flashback: Michael
I couldn't stop laughing. This Luke kid really was funny. At first he was awkward and quiet but after an hour if messing around at the local playground he finally opened up a bit.
His lame jokes were soon interrupted by the ringing of my cheap cell phone. I frowned and answered the call. It was my mum.
After what seemed like forever, the call was over.
"My mum wants me back home."
"What's wrong? I heard yelling. Is everything okay?"
"Nothing is okay."
"Want to talk about it? I mean, your house is quite a long walk."
I looked at the small blonde haired boy. His blue eyes were full of sincerity.
"Okay."
------------------------------"It started a few years ago. My dad cheated on my mum bit she took him back. But not without a price. He spent a whole year living in a run down motel room with little money. My mum wouldn't let me go see him. And she didn't give him food or money. He had no job. So after awhile he convinced her into taking him back. Everything was good. But nothing good lasts. They started fighting about every little thing. No milk in the fridge? It was all his lazy fault. Forgot to pick me up at school? It was her fault for screaming at him all day. Nothing was right. Dad started drinking. And everything just kept getting worse. I know dad started sleeping around again. And mum just found out. They're getting a divorce."
Tears stung my eyes.
The small blonde boy stopped and hugged me.
"I'm so sorry."
"She called because she wants me to say goodbye."
"Goodbye?"
"She's kicking him out."
"I'm so sorry, Michael."
I shrugged.
"Sorry won't change anything. Nothing good lasts. Love doesn't make things better. Is love even real? What is love?"
"I don't know but I know its real."
"How do you know?"
"I just know."
I let a tear roll down my cheek.
"Here we are."
I made my way up the walkway.
"Michael!"
I turned around.
"Yeah?"
"Sometimes good things do last. Sometimes love does exist. Don't give up."
I stood there and watched Luke smile and walk away.
Sometimes good things do last.
I turned away and made my way inside.
Was he right?
