Indirect  Blackmailing.

Well this was something new that I realized after reading some of the stories here. When people post their stories, they eventually start getting more and more number of reads, votes and comments. But once the story becomes famous, these people think that they can do almost anything by indirectly blackmailing the readers.

Often I find in the author’s note of well-known stories, the author writing,

“Guyzzz, I need 120 votes and 90 comments, till then I wouldn’t upload the next chapter!”

What the heck is this?

Are you trying to tell that you are doing a favour on us by uploading? Are you trying to tell us that our we would die out of desperation if you didn’t upload? Well then if you think so dear writer, I would like to tell you as politely as I can, you are absolutely not under any circumstances doing a favour on us.

Stop trying to take advantage of your popularity and the readers’ desperation to read the stories.

I myself request the readers to vote and comment on my stories. I mean, who doesn’t? Who doesn’t want their stories to be recognized and acknowledged. But I don’t blackmail the readers that if I don’t get a certain amount of votes and comments, I wouldn’t upload the next chapter. That’s totally unfair on the readers’ part.

Sometimes, I really don’t mind that. Keyword: Sometimes. And that sometimes is when the story is really good. And my definition for ‘really good’ is when I actually  think the whole day of what’s going to happen in the story next. My mind is only focused on the story and nothing else. And after coming home from school, throw my bag and first login to read the next parts. And trust me, such stories are very, very rare to find.

But some stories are as crappy as can be. I immensely apologize for my language, but I’m stating the absolute truth. And when such authors blackmail the readers, I feel like ripping  my hair of ( I wouldn’t really do that, though. My hair are too precious for that.)

I mean I could care less if you don’t upload. In fact, I would be glad if you don’t. You are saving so much of your time, and also the reader’s time who reads your crappy story. Again, sorry for the language.

So my advice to all authors on wattpad is, absolutely do not blackmail your readers. In fact, you should actually be grateful that they are actually reading your story. It is because of them your story has reached where it has today. Every single reader contributes towards increasing the popularity of your book.  Your story is absolutely nothing without their support. Learn to appreciate them, thank them, be grateful towards for the love that they’ve shown towards your story. Don’t always be a selfish pig and keep on demanding for votes and comments.

That’s all.
