Remember when I told you sometimes the viewpoints would switch over to Ryder, yea, it's one of those chapters. Anywhozers, enjoy.
I got home late, it didn't matter though, Mom wasn't even home yet. I tossed my backpack on the wooden floor, flopped on my bed and hid my face in my pillow. What was I supposed to do now? How could she do this to me? I felt the pillow to dampen, I pushed the my face farther into the velvet. Maybe 10 minutes later, I my hand fell upon the cold surface of my tablet, my fingers twisting the earbuds like spaghetti, and popping them half-heartily in my ear. Instantly, music flood my head.
"I feel the fever and I won't lie.
I break a sweat
My body's telling
All the secrets I ain't told you yet"
A wet giggle or maybe a whimper escaped my lips, I liked this song. The beat carried me, and I slipped off the bed, and grabbed a sketch book. Steadily, I sketched her. Sonja, I mean. Long, bold, pencil streaks that floated or flew across my paper. I drew her face, I drew her in overalls, a big rake in her hand, I drew her in my plaid red shirt, I drew her with a long blonde braid covering her neck, a smile crossed her face. Finally, I drew me and her, are lips pressed close. I'm usually not such a blunt drawer, but tonight I didn't care. I picked up the sheet of sketches I knew I would have to eventually burn. If my Mom found this, I'd be disowned. I smiled at the sheet once more, ripping it from my sketch book careful. I picked up my sketchbook, preparing to put it back on a small cramped shelf, when a small slip of paper fell out, slowly floating to the edge of her bed.
Startled, I flipped it over, I was almost certain I had no loose papers in my book. Messy handwriting ran through the paper, the font getting smaller and smaller as the end of the paper drew nearer. I dusted off the scraps of eraser and started reading.
Hey Ryder!
Guess who wrote a secret message in your book! Your favorite friend ever Winter!
I face palmed. Winter, she was a friend of mine, sensitive, with a weird sense of humor and a passion for writing. I kept reading.
I could sense the eyeroll Ryder! Y u do dis? Anywho, I decided to write you this in a place your Mom wouldn't look, even she has enough sense to leave her daughter's sketchbook by itself, right? I wanted to talk to you in the best way I can, writing. It's about Sonja... Look, I know it's difficult, but just, keep it up, she'll notice you. You've been a crazy good friend to her, and me and Umi both agree you have the looks (the booty, as Umi so helpfully added) and personality to get her interested. We both can feel that one day, Sonja will fall for the Ryder-trap we know and love.
I spit up a giggle, blushing, my eyes moved even faster.
Don't give up, she's a tough cookie, and if you're really interested FOR REAL, then we know there's no stopping you. Just don't forget about us, in your quest to find the girl of your dreams, cause I have a feeling your going to need us in the long run. Don't be rash about things, don't be headstrong (like you always are), and don't be stone-cold. Good luck in your little adventure to this girls heart, not that you need it.
Winter.
I reread the paper, smiling wider and wider. I felt confident that if she isn't into girls now, I'm just the girl to introduce her to real love. With a smile, or a wonderful hug, or a kiss... My mind wandered until my Mom got home, and I had to shove the paper back into my Sketchbook, and onto a cramped shelf in the corner.
