Jayflight set some herbs in front of Pineleaf. "Please Pineleaf, eat these," the medicine cat coaxed. The green eyed tabby queen lay on her side, shaking. She looked up at Jayflight, fear and pain clouding her gaze. "WHAT?!" Jayflight herd a tom yell. "SHE'S KITTING TWO MOONS TOO SOON?!" She soon recognized the voice of Hawkfeather, Pineleaf's mate.
"LET ME IN! I NEED TO SEE HER!" Soon Hawkfeather had clawed his way to the nursery, screeching at the cats blocking the entrance. "You can't go in! She-" The sound of a cats meow was cut off and soon the big tan pelted tom and burst into the nursery. "PINELEAF!" He gasped pounding over and lapping at the queens cheek. "Stay back!" Jayflight hissed at the tom. He was no use at all and just made the queen's fear-scent grow till Jayflight nearly gagged on it.
"Please, eat these Pineleaf, you need to be strong." Jayflight mewed to the queen. Pineleaf then yowled, her body shaking fiercely which stopped a little as a silver tabby slide onto the moss. Hawkfeather padded over licking the kit desperately until it mewled hungerily and pawed at the air. "Its a tom!" Hawkfeather whispered to his mate. The queens only reaction was painful moaning. Jayflight lightly rubbed her paw on the queens belly. "Pineleaf eat the herbs!" Hawkfeather meowed. After what seemed like forever a tan kit speckled black came and Hawkfeather was then licking the kit. "Its a molly!" The tan tom meowed when the kit mewled angrily and crawled by her brother who was suckling at his mothers belly.
"You're doing good, you're okay," Hawkfeather whispered lapping at the queen's cheek. She shuddered and gasped and soon a tiny silver kit slid onto the moss, the father licking the kit soon after. "Another molly," he announced. "One tom and two molly cats." "And that should be all," the medicine cat announced as the three kits suckled at Pineleaf's belly and their mother watched them, still gasping for breath. She screeched in alarm as the tom kit fell limp. "THE TOM!" The parents gasped as Jayflight prodded the silver tom. She rubbed its back, gently but harshly. After no response, the medicine cat looked up sadly shaking her head.
Pineleaf wailed in distress and pain and Hawkfeather looked down sadly. The little silver tom suddenly sat up slightly, maw wide open in a silent mew. "He's alive!" The tan pelted father meowed joyfully. "Thank Starclan!" Pineleaf looked down at her kit happily. "lets name him, Starkit." The queen rasped. Jayflight said nothing. That cat will never become leader, let alone important whatsoever. "Lets name her Leopardkit, she looks like she will be available to take down a leopard in a few moons!" Hawkfeather meowed, poking her back. "She's a decendant from Leopardclan!""And she looks like one too," Pineleaf murmured. "And for her, how about Echokit?" Hawkfeather asked pointing to the last molly, who was quite small, but had big ears. Pineleaf nodded.
"Your kits are beautiful and you chose perfect names for your kits," Jayflight meowed picking up the herbs Pineleaf refused to eat, except for that silver tom. "Thank you," Hawkfeather meowed as the medicine cat padded out. Jayflight was glad the queens kitting was over. She was tired and knew she would have nightmares for a few days of the queens face. Her eyes wide and scared and in pain. Her jaws gaping open in painful yowls. The- Her thoughts were interrupted by wails of distress from the nursery. She charged back over and saw Hawkfeather, holding his kits close, wailing at the sight of his mate.
Her amber eyes darted to the queen on the ground. Foam was forming around her mouth and her gaze was clouded. She kicked and clawed marks in the dirt, her jaws were open as if to yowl. "HELP HER! STOP HER SUFFERING!" Hawkfeather screeched at Jayflight. She watched the queen sadly, her paws rooted to the ground. "Not even Starclan can help her," she murmured. The queens spasm soon died away and she lay on the ground, the moss around her torn. Her breath came in rapid, ragged gasps until her tail tip twitched and she fell limp, her eyes glazed. The three kits wailed as if they knew what was happening. Echokit barely yowled, she seemed to be trying to cover her ears while their father yowled in agony and sadness as his mate died. He threw himself next to Pineleaf's body licking her cheek, not caring whatsoever that he had then crushed Echokit's pine underpaw.
