Confusion Of Truth

The last time Kennedy Hope approached me in the schoolyard was the first time I realised the truth.
"Winters."
"Uh, Kylie?"
She laughed, of all things.
"What, I'm Kylie now? You know that's not my name."
Frost crept up my neck. I remembered Juliet's warning.
You have to decide.
I took a deep breath.
"Look, Kennedy; I am not your adventuring companion. I can't miss school when you've given me no reason."
This doesn't even catch her off guard.
"So the spray paint, the books? They didn't tell you?"
She never fails to confuse me.
"Tell me what? Why me?"
Then her lips brush my cheek and-
She's gone.
I raise a hand to where she kissed me.
Her eyes still burning in the back of my temple
My heart still beating fast
Still beating
And it's wrong
Right?
And I'm more confused than ever.
