There she was. Nanette was cornered and had no where to run. She tried to breathe but couldn't. She noticed that she was under water, being held down by ball and chain. She tried to swim upwards but she simply could not move. The shadowy figure that was chasing her moved closer and closer until, everything went black.

Nanette woke up. Sweat pouring down her face. Heavily breathing, she got up and got a glass of water. It was just a nightmare, she thought as she chugged the glass of glacier cold water. Suddenly, she gets a call from her friend Gabe.
Nanette: Hey Gabe what's up?
Gabe: Oh I was just wondering if you were up for a beach day?
Nanette: Is anyone else coming?
Gabe: Yeah.
Nanette: Who else is gonna be there?
(Sorry for the bold italics guys, Wattpad doesn't like me XD!)
Gabe: Um well Terra, Abby, and Nate are the only other people coming.
Nanette: Ok I'll meet you guys at the beach at around 1:30 pm ok?
Gabe: Ok see you there!
Nanette: Ok see you bye!
Gabe: Bye.

Nanette went up the chilled wooden stairs up to her bedroom to get ready for the beach. She slipped on her sparkly blue one-piece along with the sandals that went with it. She packed a towel with a red-haired mermaid on it. She also packed some snacks for her friends if they got hungry.
~ It is now 1:30pm and Nanette is at the beach now ~
"Hey Guys!" Nanette shouted while she ran to her friends. Nobody spoke. They were all gathered around something, looking like as though they have just seen a ghost. They surrounded a leather-string necklace with a wooden charm in it in the shape of a star-fish. Once Nanette got to were her friends were, she tried to get closer to the mysterious item but Nate held is arm out , blocking Nanette from getting any closer. Nanette finally got the message that she shouldn't touch it without some explanation. "Hey guys, maybe we should move away from this thing and just enjoy this beautiful day!" Abby cheered, finally escaping from her fearful state. Everyone automatically snapped out of it and went over to the area where they had set all of their things. The only one who stayed was Nanette, just standing there, staring at the necklace. "Nanette! Come on!" Gabe called to her. Nanette finally snapped out of it and went over to the green wooden table that the others were at. "So I have a question." Nanette said breaking the awkward silence.
"Go ahead." Nate said, confident that he could answer.
"Why were you guys so scared of that necklace thing?" Nanette questioned. Everyone fell silent. "Oh, so you haven't heard the legend?" Nate said in a spooky voice.
"What legend?" Nanette asked, a little creeped out.
"The Legend of the Star-Fish. Long ago lived an evil mermaid who owned and wore this charm every day. One day, a good mermaid, the Queen Mermaid actually, decided to battle the evil mermaid but to no avail. When the evil mermaid defeated the Queen, the evil mermaid used magic to trap the good mermaid in her charm. The evil mermaid was later killed for treason and they just threw out the charm. Legend says that if you wear the necklace, you grow a mermaid tail whenever you touch water." Nate narrated in a creepy voice.
"Well I'll just have to test that now won't I?" Nanette questioned as she wandered over to the charm.
"Wait Nanette!" They all shouted in unison as she slipped on the necklace. Nanette then walked over to the water and dipped her toes in. She then walked back over to her friends. Grabbing her towel, Nanette said in a sarcastic voice,"Yeah I totally turned into a mermaid back there." Nanette then changed back to a normal tone and continued," See I told you guys nothing would go wrong."
"Actually , no you didn't..." Terra was interrupted.
"Shhhhh!" Nanette said putting a finger over Terra's mouth and then continuing." The point is, I'm not a mermaid. It's 3:00, I gotta go now but I'll see you guys later. Ok?"
"Ok Bye!" They all said as Nanette was walking off.
Cursed charm? Nanette thought to herself. That's crazy.
