all the four to six-year-old faeries come tumbling out of recreation room d when their first flying lesson is over, squealing and chattering to each other about what they're going to learn to do. they still walk, but some children's faces are scrunched up in concentration trying to get their wings to spring out of their back. only one pupil, moria, has any luck. this surprises most of the older faeries waiting for their children, because most of the time a five or six-year-old is the first to fly, not a four-year-old.
moria giggles as she unsteadily flies next to jo, cassie and katie. her feet are no more than a foot off the ground (faeries generally fly fifteen to twenty feet off the ground), but all three of her friends have jealousy written across their features. jo breaks away from her little group of friends with a wave, running up to luke. he lowers to the floor, and scoops josephine into a hug. "hi girly, how was your first day at cfs?"
"it was great, except moria can already fly! why can't i fly yet, lukey?" jo said, her eyes watering as she finished.
"don't worry, jo. i was the last kid to learn to fly when i was at cfs, you'll learn. i think the secret is to never give up, and always try harder than you ever thought you could. persistence pays off," luke says, resting his sister on his hip as he fluttered back up into the air. "look, soon you'll able to do this all by yourself. no more mom or i to carry you up here. it's great, trust me. you can get around in the forest so easily!"
"okay lukey," jo says, leaping from his arms into their mother's, who happens to be fluttering a few feet away.
later, luke is sneaking out of jo's room after tucking her into bed when his mom startles him. "luke, what did you tell michael about today?"
"i told him we couldn't hang out because i wasn't feeling well. why?"
liz sighed, "well, he's at the door with vegetable soup. i told him i'd check if you were awake before letting him in. are you 'awake?'"
"yeah, just give me two minutes please," luke replies, pulling off his shirt as he headed into his bedroom. the faerie boy pulls off his skirt and top and kicks off his shoes, leaving him in lacy white panties. knowing nothing will come of michael's visit, luke just pulls boxers over them instead of taking them off. he puts on an old walk-a-thon shirt from school one year and burrows under his blankets, fluffing his hair to make it look less presentable.
there's a knock at the door, and luke closes his eyes. "come in," he says from under a pile of blankets and pillows, furiously rubbing his nose to make it look red.
"how're you feeling?" michael was worried- luke never cancelled out of the blue.
"better, i think. hopefully i'll be alright for school tomorrow. can we cuddle?" luke asked, putting on a meek, sick act.
"of course," michael grinned. he might still be tough, but with luke he was putty.
the two fell asleep cuddled together, and luke didn't realize he'd left his tennis skirt and tee on the floor in plain sight.
a/n: ahh i didn't know how to end that lmao rip anyway i feel like this is moving fast but it'll probably be short so oh well
