I lay awake in my bed listening to the sound of the waves hit the boat. I've never been on a ship before, and I was starting to feel a bit seasick. Scarlett was sound asleep in her bed. The waves seemed to have no effect on her. Then again, she was used to being on ships. I wasn't.

I heard the slow ticking of the clock on the wall. I looked over at it and read the time. 2:30. I got out of my bed, left the room quietly, and decided to go for a small walk. Maybe that will make me tired enough to fall asleep.

I walked down the hallway of the lower deck. The door to Christian's room was opened just a crack, and I could hear snoring coming from it. I walked over and peeked through the crack. When I looked, Christian was sound asleep in his bed. His roommate was the one making that dreadful snoring sound. I'm surprised Christian can sleep through it. Not to mention the fact that we are on a boat, but maybe that only bothers me.

I ignored the snoring and looked at Christian. He looked so peaceful in his sleep. I noticed he had his hands wrapped around a pillow while he slept. I couldn't help but wonder what if it were me instead of the pillow? I imagined myself wrapped in Christian's arms. Each breathe we take in sync with the others as we lie together asleep. If that were the case, then I don't think I would have much trouble sleeping.

I was lost in my thoughts when I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder. I gasped, and then turned around. I saw Scarlett standing before me.  "Woah, I didn't mean to scare you." She said in a whisper. "I heard you leave the room and noticed you having a little trouble sleeping." She said. "Being on a boat can do that to you. Here, take some of these. It will help calm you down." She said holding out her hand. There were two white round pills on the palm of her hand.

I looked at the pills skeptically. I know that I probably shouldn't take them from her. I took the pills from her hand to make it seem like I didn't suspect her of anything. If I thought she was guilty of something, I didn't want her knowing my suspicions. People will do anything to protect their dignity. "Thanks" I said. "I'll go get you a glass of water." She said. She walked away and I was left looking at the pills in my hand. A few minutes later she came back with the glass. "Here you go" she said handing me the glass. I thought she would leave but she stayed. Probably to make sure I took the pills.

I put the pills in my mouth and slid them under my tongue. I took a sip of the water. "Hope that helps." She said, then walked back into our room. When I was certain she was in the room, I spit the pills and went up deck to throw them overboard. There was no way I could trust those pills.
