Chapter Fifteen

I'm standing in the middle of a ballroom. I am wearing a big bright blue ball gown with a crown on top of my head. I am alone. No one else is around. I know I'm dreaming, but I can't seem to wake up. "You better watch your back" I hear a voice say. I look around, but no one is there. "You won't be queen" I hear the voice say. I recognize it, but can't quite figure out who it belongs to. "You won't be alive" I hear the voice say. I then realized who the voice belonged too.

Scarlett.

Suddenly, I hear the sound of diamonds hitting together, I looked above me and see that the chandler is swinging side to side, the crystals hitting one another.

I see Scarlett above the stair case with the rope to the chandelier in her hand. She lets go, and before I have a chance to react, the chandelier comes crashing down.

"Erika? Erika can you hear me?" I hear a voice say. I try to open my eyes, but they just won't budge. I try to open my mouth to say something, but nothing comes out. My head is buzzing and my stomach is turning. What is going on? Is this what it feels like to get sea sick? It's a lot worse than I imagined.

"She's sweating a lot." I hear the voice say again. I recognize the voice as Christian's. I feel a hand touch my forehead. "And she's burning up. I think we should go get the doctor" Christian says. I hear footsteps, and then a door open. "I have never seen anyone so sea sick before." I heard Scarlett say. Even when I'm semi conscious I can't stand the sound of her voice.

"She's not sea sick. She has water poisoning." I heard a voice I'm pretty sure belonged to the captain say. "You see this glass of water? It's from the sink in the kitchen. That sink gets its water from the sea. The sea water isn't clean, so we go through a certain process to clean it so it's safe. We keep the water we drink in a certain barrel. She must have gotten thirsty, saw the sink, and assumed the water was to drink." He said.

I wanted to interrupt him, to tell him Scarlett was the one who had given me the water. She knew I wouldn't trust the pills. They were just a way to distract me from the fact that she was trying to give me water poisoning. "Is she going to be okay?" Christian asked. "She'll be fine. The doctor will give her a vaccine. She'll wake up about a few hours after she gets the shot." Said the captain.

I heard the door open. People were talking, but all I could hear were mumbles. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my right arm. I try to cry out, but I can't make a sound. That must have been the vaccine.

"Alright, we should probably all go somewhere else. We don't want a big crowd around when she wakes up." Said the captain. I heard the door open and the sound of people's footsteps. "Are you coming Christian?" I heard Scarlett ask. "I should probably stay down here with her until she wakes up." He said. I heard the sound of heeled shoes and then the door close.

The pounding in my head had gone down and my stomach wasn't churning so much anymore. I was able to open my eyes a little bit at a time. After about three minutes of trying, I was finally able to open them fully. I looked out the window. The sky was dark and there were stars. It was nighttime. I looked over to the other bed and noticed that Scarlett wasn't sleeping in it, but someone else was.

"Christian?" I said in the loudest voice I possibly could, which was barley a whisper. Christian opened his eyes and looked at me. When he saw I was awake, he walked over towards the bed and sat on the side. "What are you doing in here? Where's Scarlett?" I asked. I'm hoping the answer to the second one is they threw her over board after they found out she was the one that did this to me.

"Scarlett's in the other room. She traded with me because I insisted on being here when you woke up. How are you feeling?" He asked putting his hand on my forehead. "Ummm...better I guess." I replied. He took his hand away from my forehead. "You're still a little warm, but it's nothing to concerning. I should have made sure to tell you to get the water from the barrels, not the sink." He said. I opened my mouth to tell him that this was Scarlett's doing and not mine, but then I shut my mouth and decided now to.

The lady I talked to earlier had told me that Scarlett was devious. When someone is devious, they are good at manipulating people into doing what they want. Telling Christian about Scarlett is exactly what she wanted me to do. If I did tattle on her, it would make me seem weak and insecure. Nobody wants a weak and insecure queen. I had to remain a certain composure. I had to be strong and confident if I were going to become the queen and change things.

"I think I won't ever make that mistake again." I said with a little chuckle, which was hard to accomplish in the state I was in. Christian kissed my forehead. "You should get some rest." He said. "We will arrive to Mouvelon tomorrow evening, and I want you to feel better for the festival." He said. He kissed my forehead one last time, then began to walk back over to the other bed. I grabbed his wrist while he was still in my reach. He turned and looked at me. "Will you stay with me?" I said, the words flowing easier than before, but it was still difficult to speak. He smiled softly and nodded his head. I scooted over, and he got into the bed and pulled the covers over us.

We were facing each other, looking into each others eyes. He kissed me. I turned around the other way, facing the wall. He wrapped his arms around me. "Goodnight, Erika" he said. "Goodnight Christian." I replied.

Then I drifted off to sleep without any troubles.
