Chapter 4

Dave POV

My eyes widen when I hear Scarlet's plan.

I gasp "What?"

She looks slightly annoyed, and says "What do you mean, what? I said my plan -you spying for us in Castle Rock."

"Why me? Why not Godfrey, or John, or Much, or even you? Why me?" I asked.

.. I saw Scar just roll her eyes and groan. But she just said "Well, for me, Much, and John not doing it, they would recognize us. Also, me and Gisbourne have had a few run ins and he hates me, and I depsise him. I don't think he would recognize me, but there's always that chance. Your the best person for the job, Dave."

I just shook my head and said "Why not Godfrey, or even Rob? Why me?"

. I saw her roll her eyes and heard her mutter "He just never gets it."

.. I just looked at her until she said "How stupid are you? Apparently very, because we obviously can't spare Rob, he's leader! As for Godfrey, he's rather well known and would be recognized! With you, youre not particularly well known, youre not a known outlaw like most of us here, and youre just a damn good person! How thick do you have to be?!?!" She angrily yelled.

I winced, and sighed. All that she said was true. I groaned and said "Fine. I'll do it."

She just nodded and said "Good. You're the best one for the job."

..I smile at her words, considering she does not say things like that often. But when she does, she means it. She then glanced at Rob, and he nodded. She turned back to me and said

"Dave, before we send you in to get a job in the Castle, we need to get you trained up with some weapons. We will all take turns teaching you our specialties. I'll also help you in telling believable lies. Got it?"

I just nod, and she says "What would you like to start with?"

..I just say "Umm....what would be the most useful if I am working in the castle and am suddenly attacked?"

She just rolls her eyes and says "Knives. Fistfighting would be useful as well...but knives are easily hidable. You can't eactly hide a longbow and quiver of arrows or a quarterstaff. So I guess you can start with fist fighting and knives."

I nod and ask "What should I start with?"

She thinks, then says "How about knives? I'll teach you the basics. I will most likely break up your training. Tomorrow, Rob will teach you the longbow and sword fighting. Then, John will teach you fist fighting and the quarter staff. Much will be teaching you the kattari. Sound all right to you?" She asks.

I just nod, unable to speak. I feel sick, I understand why it has to be me and why we need it but that doesn't mean I don't feel sick at the idea, birth at going into the castle as a spy and at having her teach me. She tells me that I need to hurry up eating, because the castle will be hiring in 2 weeks, so I needed as much training as possible. Well, I have to agree with her on that one. I DO need as much training as possible. I will be going into the heart of enemy territory on purpose, so I need a fuck load of training. I just groaned. After I finished my food, Scarlet said

"OK, Dave come on. Lets get you started with knife throwing. Follow me."

She leads me out to a clearing surrounded by trees. She pulls out one of her knives from its holster, and hands it to me. I look at the knife in curiosity, and she said

"This knife may not work as well for you as it does me, but it should be ok. Later on, when you have a break, I'll take you with me into town and we'll trade for a knife for you so you have your own. So, chose a tree. Not too far away, relatively close. That one looks good."

she said, pointing to tree about 5 yards to my right. I grasped the knife tip in my right hand, faced the tree, and threw. It only went about 1 yard away, and on top of that, I had a new cut on my hand.

I glared at her and said "You didn't tell me it was so sharp!! It hurt! You didn't explain anything, I cut my hand, it's bleeding-" I suddenly got cut off by her smirk.

"You should know how sharp my knives are, you can tell by the blade, see how it's so shiny, and narrow? That means it's sharp. You've also watched me sharpen my knives for hours on end. You should've known, it's not my fault you're a complete dipshit sometimes." She said, looking a little pissed.

"Well why the fuck didn't you tell me anything? I cut myself!" I cried out indignantly. "I didn't tell you anything because I wanted to see what your natural instinct would be." She said, calmly and slowly, as though talking to a little kid.

I sighed. I knew the logic, but that still didn't make me any happier.

She said "Try again. Loosen your grip, it needs to be more relaxed. Then It should go better. Also, really throw it. Put some muscle into it."

I nod, and try again. This time, it hit the tree point first, but didn't stick. She nodded.

"Better. Keep trying."

I groan. I keep on throwing, even as my arm gets tired, because I know I won't get any sympathy from her. . It's about 2 hours until I get a good, solid stick. I throw a few more times, and each time get a good stick. I grin like a little kid.

She just nods, and says "Better. You can be done for the day." I just nod.

"Lets go get lunch. After, I'll take you into town and we will get you a knife or 2 of your own to practice with. After that, more training." She says, with no room for disagreement. I just nod again, and follow her.
