It being summer, Ciel's everyday life wasn't something that would be of interest to most people, but Sebastian seemed to think otherwise. Video games were the blunettes stronghold (especially ones that required strategy) and Sebastian had spent many hours leaning over Ciel's shoulder, cheering him on and cussing at the screen. Ciel grew fond of his boyfriends enthusiasm and support, even if it were for a mere video game. Still, he kept Sebastian at a distance. He'd been lucky enough not to have one of his attacks recently, and when he woke from nightmares, he was thankful for his decision of having Sebastian sleep on the couch. That night, however, things changed.
He saw the fire again in his dreams; the men with masks, the knives. He heard the screams; his own screams. A hand held down his wrists, a dagger was positioned over his heart. "Ciel." A voice echoed around him.
Hang on. He knew that voice. It came again, this time soft, and concerned. "Ciel?" His eyes flew open.
Sebastian stood at one side of the bed, his eyes wide. "Ciel, you were screaming." He said.
Ciel blushed heavily. He was covered in a cold sweat. "It's your ptsd, isn't it?" Sebastian asked. When he didn't receive an answer, he sat down on the edge of the bed, ruffling the younger boys hair. "Hey, it's okay." He said quietly. "I'm right here. I won't let anyone touch you." He lay down and pulled Ciel into a tight hug.
Ciel woke suddenly the next morning and immediately wondered why Sebastian had his arm around him. Then, he remembered and his face flushed. Sebastian hadn't just seen him while he was having one of his nightmares, he'd HEARD him from SEVERAL ROOMS OVER! 'He probably thinks I'm some helpless little kid.' Ciel thought to himself. Flustered, he tried to maneuver around Sebastian's tangled limbs without waking him, but didn't succeed. "Ciel." The black haired boy mumbled drowsily. "Your awake. How are you feeling?"
Ciel paused to think of an answer, then said curtly, "I'm fine, thanks." He proceeded to scooch off the bed.
Sebastian sat up, and tried to brush some of his bed head from his face. A gesture which Ciel had to admit, was quite entertaining to see. "Are you hungry? Do you want me to make you breakfast?"
"I can make my own breakfast!" Ciel shot at his boyfriend more forcefully than he'd intended.
Blinking, Sebastian replied. "But I want to make you breakfast." The older boy got out of bed and headed out the room. "I think I'll have an omelet. If you want something different you'll have to speak up now." Ciel narrowed his eyes. "An omelet is fine." 'He thinks I'm helpless!' He thought. 'I'll show him just how helpless I am!' As Sebastian left, he quickly got dressed and snuck from the apartment while Sebastian was busy over the stove. Ciel knew what he had to do. He was going to find Sebastian's cat; alone.
Ciel hurried to the site of the burned down house. Looking around to make sure there were no police or security officials in view, he slipped under the yellow caution tape and made his way into the house, charred walls surrounding him. He tried to calm his heart as memories of his own childhood disaster flooded over him. He could almost hear the cackling of flames in the distance. He closed his eyes and tried to push away his thoughts, swallowing at a lump in his throat. "I have to do this." He said quietly. "I'm not afraid." He opened his eyes again and took a few steps forward. Part of the house was intact, sort of. He poked his head in each of the rooms, searching under burnt rubble. If Periwinkle wasn't here, she wasn't going to be found, but Sebastian was convinced she'd come back, and he'd known her better than Ciel did.
He found what looked like it had been a bedroom. A nightstand stood beside a pile of blackened wood in the shape of a bed frame, in one corner of the room, a black ball of fur lay curled in a heap. "Periwinkle...?" He asked aloud. An ear twitched. She was alive. A smile spread across Ciel's face. Sebastian will be so happy! He wouldn't think Ciel was helpless anymore.
The cat looked up, and upon spotting the blunette standing there, stood quickly and darted away. "Hey, wait!" Ciel raced after her, forgetting he was currently on the second story of a recently fire-filled building. Periwinkle shot into another room and Ciel ran towards the doorway, putting his weight on a charred floorboard. He felt the floor beneath him give way, and himself falling. He panicked, and looked for something to grab hold of before hitting the ground with a painful THUNK!
