I never believed that lies could hurt.
Never.
I also never believed that a human being could have the audacity to even think about lying or hurting anybody. All murders were accidents, and all lies were for the greater good.
Brendan lied in my face, danced around the truth, and impersonated a false identity. He lied his way around me, thinking that it was all just a funny game he could play to get to me.
They shoved me in the back of something I vaguely recognized. It might have been called a truck. After that, they tied me in thick duct tape, not even listening to my cries of protest and discomfort when they shoved me inside, slamming the door to freedom.
I never believed that any of that could happen.
Lies could never hurt, I used to tell myself. Lies were for the greater good. They were only used when necessary and didn’t cause much pain to other people.
Brendan laughed in my face when he told me of all his traitorous treachery, his tone mordacious and mocking, like some part of him wanted me to lash out at him.
I wish I did.
I never believed that lies could change someone’s entire opinion. I never believed that they could hurt someone—even rip apart an entire being.
I also didn’t know that lies could revive me—bring me to life again, make me see everything for the way it is again.
It was a breath of fresh air, the scent of the ocean, the whisper of the wind, and the air pushed into my lungs that would restore me.
I never knew they could destroy me from the inside.
Now I do.
And "Harmony" is over! :) Here is some information about the story:
This is just the first in the trilogy (I know, what a drag)
This (and the other two following) is a first draft (please be easy on it! :D)
Books in Trilogy (in reading order): Harmony, Anarchy, Equity
Some things I want to change:
A lot of things, to say the least, but first and foremost, I want to make the next drafts MUCH more authentic than the first ones. (I mean, in the first one, they're just wondering in the middle of nowhere. I literally don't even Google Map Australia) So I may change it to Cooks Island or another small island instead of a large landmass like Australia.
Next of all, I want the writing style to be better (and more poetic, but not purple prose).
Finally, some names are going to be changed around. (Though Tabitha and Fiametta are DEFINITELY going to stay the same) Also, there will be plotline changes! In the next drafts, Rush may become a real person instead of Brendan's fake identity. I may add more characters for diversity. I may change the ethnicity for diversity. (Tabitha and Thorpe are half-Chinese while Bryler is full, and Dr. Salazar is black, the only non-white characters so far) Yeah, a lot of things will be changed. It might even be unrecognizable in later drafts.
But despite all the short-comings of the first book, I hope you stick around to see me struggle through the next two (which I honestly barely have anything planned for it except.... *spoiler alert!* torture/death/rebellion.)
I will continue the second and third book in the same file/story (here).
