Forty-two

{ when second chances won't leave you alone, there's faith in love }

"Thank you all so much for coming out tonight!" Vic yelled, causing the crowd to scream back at him. "But before we go, I have one more song to play for you guys. This song has never been played live, and this song has never been played acoustically." The crowd went wild again.

Vic laughed and shhhed them, "I would really appreciate it if you all sat down," Vic motioned for them to sit, and they did. "Except you," he pointed at Ellie, who stood front row, center stage.

I brought Vic his acoustic guitar, and Mike, Jaime and I walked off stage. I draped my arms around Grace's shoulders from behind and nuzzled my face into her neck. "I love you," I whispered against her skin as Vic started to slowly strum the guitar.

"Drag my hand behind you like a chain behind a truck, sparks over your carpet lead us through the darkness. Somebody's supposed to fall in love, but nobody even calls. Somebody's supposed to..." Vic snag quietly, his soft voice echoing through the otherwise silent venue.

Ellie looked shocked as hell, and also a little bit unsure of herself, being as she was the only one still standing. But she also looked happy. I knew this would work. Vic just needs to learn to listen better.

"Tear this place apart until you find me hiding, silently I wait. You'll be excited just to see me someday, everything's ok.

Summer and gold, throw their colors at the dark, a mother tells her son, 'darling look at the sparks.' But you hold my attention without even trying, a beautiful reflection from firework eyes. When never means forever, desperation and hanging in the backyard at night. Somebody's supposed to fall in love.

Tear this place apart until you find me hiding, silently I wait. You'll be excited just to see me someday, everything's ok.

Love, don't forget to bleed slowly, haunted heart we bleed over the fabric of your floor. I'm holding her just like she's gold, but I've been running from the sun, oh no no.

And if I ever catch the ones who hurt you, I'm hoping that god looks away this time, why would I let you go?" Both Vic and Ellie were crying by this point, and the whole audience was still silent.

"Tear this place apart until you find me hiding, silently I wait. You'll be excited just to see me someday, everything's ok," Vic finished slowly, looking down at his guitar while he tried to compose himself.

"Ellie, Elle, Moose," Vic chuckled at all the names he had for her, "I want to start by publicly apologizing for accusing you of cheating when I had no proof. I want to add that I'm a complete and utter dumbass. But most importantly, I want you to know that I love you, Ellie. I love you with all my heart, and I'd do anything," he started, slowly getting down on one knee in front of Ellie.

"I'd do anything for you to be Mrs. Ellie Fuentes," he finished, pulling a ring out of his pocket.

Ellie looked stunned. Her mouth hung open, and her eyes were wide. "Please, Moose, be my wife?" Vic asked again.

Ellie nodded slowly, tears starting to form rivulets down her cheeks. "Yes, I'll marry you," she replied, leaning in to kiss him.

"That was so sweet!" Grace gushed, clapping her hands and jumping up and down.

I laughed at her reaction as Vic pulled Ellie onto the stage and said goodbye to the crowd, before they walked off hand in hand. "You were right, turtle," Vic laughed, clapping me on the shoulder, "you deserve a medal."

I chuckled and Grace and I headed to the party Vic had planned for after the proposal. With the party in full swing mere minutes after arriving, everyone was laughing and yelling and drinking. I wandered around looking for Grace, seeing as she walked off with Rachel sometime ago.

I spotted her standing in a corner, her phone pressed against her ear, and a worried expression on her beautiful face. "What's up, princess?" I asked, slipping my arm around her waist.

She quickly hung up the phone, and looked away from me, "I need to go," she stated flatly.

"Where?" I asked, confusion washing over my mind.

She shook her head, "I just need to go. Please just let me go," she pleaded with me, her eyes begging me not to worry.

"Ok, whatever," I mumbled, releasing her waist and watching sadly as she sprinted out the door.
