As the Skyline lifted itself above the clouds a whole new word was revealed to Luna, the cityscape and the light it emitted was a soft yellow with spotlights piercing through the clouds, words couldn’t express the awe that Luna was currently experiencing. An airship passed just above them spouting the Ministry’s message of peace and supervision. She looked around in awe though she was distracted by the Skyline lurching forward once again towards the center of the city.
“Geez, you look like a kid in a candy store!” David chuckled, Luna gave him a funny look, he could have sworn she had no idea what anything was, everything he said must have been gibberish to her. David fiddled with the control panel for a second as the Skyline came to a halt mid-air, he looked confused.
“They’re rerouting us to the Montgomery Building.” He said, confusion rife in his voice.
“Isn’t that a Ministry owned building?” Luna questioned, David simply nodded.
“Well it’s just across the road, we can walk I guess.” David said, he looked uneasy and Luna knew why. She had no idea why they were heading to the base in the first place, everything was Ministry owned and the last time she checked they were trying to kill him. There was something he wasn’t telling her.
“David, why are we going to Central Base anyway? I thought they wanted you dead.” Luna said as they started to lurch forward again.
“Good point, sort of, I have friends at the base, friends that can fix us up. That smog really did a number on you especially. You look like a ghost now.” He said adjusting the rear-view mirror so that she could see herself, Luna had no idea her skin could get so pale and she’d only just noticed the niggling feeling the back of her throat and chest. She sneezed onto the sleeve of her grey workers uniform, as she brought the sleeve up to her face she saw it was stained red. She suddenly became a lot more worried. She leant forward slightly to peer out the window, she noticed there weren’t as many skylines around tonight, scratch that, there were no others.
“David..” Luna started, “Where is everyone else.” David didn’t answer, it was obvious that he had picked up on it merely seconds ago also. They started to lurch away from the gleaming skyscraper that was the Montgomery Building but it was futile, the Skyline was suddenly rocked with what seemed like an explosion but there was no damage.
“EMP!” David shouted as the Skyline went into a nosedive and he struggle to maintain control.
“Attention Central Dome! This is Officer 626! Requesting authorization to enter immediately! Mayday! Mayday!” He screamed into the small microphone on the dashboard. Luna held onto her seat as they fell through the clouds and she could yet again see the Lower-City, and the dome. The Central Dome was the device that surrounded the base and what David had claimed to formerly be a place called, ‘Central Park’. She still thought it was unlikely but he WAS old. She had plenty of time to admire the gleaming structure, especially since they were heading right for it.
“David! Pull up!” Luna screamed, he ignored her.
“DAVID!” She screamed yet again as she grabbed he arm and started to shake it, he slapped her hand away, he was focused on a small opening that was starting to emerge in the top of the dome, it was small and if they were going to get inside David needed to focus, Luna stopped and sat there, still and clinging onto her seat. As soon as they entered the dome David immediately started to pull up. The Skyline made contact with the asphalt of the base and skid along, all Luna could see out of her window were bright, almost blinding sparks. The skid for a good few meters and ended up in a small ditch on the outskirts of the base. Luna looked over to David who was sat there with his eyes closed, breathing heavily. He pushed a button on the dash and the top of the Skyline opened, they both climbed out of the mangled vehicle, upon inspecting it Luna wondered how they had survived.
Luna turned around to see a group of soldiers huddled at the top of the ditch, not only were their eyes on the two, but their were guns too.
