The Skyline whizzed in-between smokestacks and refineries, Luna and David were being chased by at least a dozen CPS drones, David pulled up but it was too late, they had been hit and the Skyline simply cut out, they were falling now. In the moment before impact time seemed to stop and reality warped around them, buildings fragmented and it seemed as if they have lived a thousand days over five seconds, suddenly blackness. Damnit, not again.

Luna awoke with the sun shining down on her and a clear blue sky above her, she sat up and observed her surroundings. She was sitting in the middle of an empty intersection save for one driver who looked utterly stunned. Luna collected her thoughts, got to her feet and ran. The general look of the area seemed the same, she was still on Staten Island, but When was she on Staten Island? Luna clambered up a hill and used it as a vantage point, from there she could see the next island over, New York City, as it was before the corporate takeover that is.

Luna was disoriented, the world spun around her, what was this? Was this some kind of trick? What she dead? She spotted a sea vessel approaching the docks, she could barely make out the lettering from where she was, 'Staten Island Ferry' was painted in bold lettering on the side of the ship. Luna felt uneasy about her decision but decided to head towards the Ferry anyway. Upon arriving at the dock it Luna saw that it was bustling with activity, she used that to her advantage to sneak onto the Ferry.

During the journey Luna leant over the railings and admired the clear blue sky and pulled up her sleeves so that she may feel the sunlight on her bare skin, it felt good. The cityscape had changed dramatically, buildings were so much shorter and primitive, Luna felt at home. Luna noticed something out of the corner of her eye flapping in the wind, it was a peculiar piece of paper with ink printed on it, she picked it up and inspected the front page;

'November 18th 2015, THE NEW YORK TIMES

TEXAS SECEDES!

The Republic of Texas has now fully

seceded from the United States of

America. The President of Texas stated

that he would, “No longer live under the

tyranny of the Obama Administration.”

and urged other states to join them in

secession. Currently Nevada, Arizona

and Florida governments have issued

statements stating that they would not

be seceding from the United States in the

foreseeable future, they did however say that

it is a likely and realistic step that would be

taken if the Obama Administration continued

to defy the constitution and the founding

fathers themselves.

Raine Wilson – Las Vegas, Nevada

Luna blinked for a moment, it was 2015? How could that be? She'd been thrown hundreds of years into the past and she had no idea how or why. She needed to find David, Luna reassured herself that David MUST have made it through if she did. Luna started to notice a niggling sound in the distance, it sounded an awful lot like a Skyline, she turned to see not a Skyline but something entirely different. A fleet of jets were approaching Staten Island from her direction, people all around her on the Ferry started to panic and ran into the cabins. Luna stood and watched as the jets fired missiles at various locations on the island blowing up factories, smokestacks and even homes.

Luna looked behind her, the Ferry was almost at the Manhattan docks now, she quickly made her way to the exit and jumped off the second the Ferry hit the shore. People all over the docks where standing in awe watching as Staten Island burst into flames. Luna made her way off of the dock and onto the street bordering the it, there traffic had come to a halt as curious and scared bystanders stood beside their cars observing the carnage.

As Luna wandered further into the city she noticed that it was practically in a state of Martial Law, Soldiers were stationed on every street corner and dozens of checkpoints were set up all over the place, most of which were abandoned as many of the Soldiers themselves had rushed to the shoreline to watch the attack. As Luna started to walk again a booming voice filled the street, she looked up to observe a massive television screen mounted on the side of a building playing some kind of News Bulletin.

This is Eliza Cassan for CNN reporting from Staten Island!” The reporter stated into the camera, in the distance the figures of soldiers and military vehicles could be made out, “Staten Island is under attack by an unknown enemy! All Citizens are ordered to head to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal AT ONCE! Alternately Bomb Shelters are also a good place to take shelter, CNN Urges it's viewers to take care in this time of danger an-” The reporter was cut off by the explosion of a mortar shell in the background as the screen cut to static, only then did Luna notice the crowd that had gathered around her. All eyes were fixed on the screen in disbelief.

This wasn't right.
