Mikayla POV

"What are you saying?"

Cam rolled his eyes.

"What part of that did you not understand?"

Ignoring him, I stood up.

"I was supposed to be here for a year. It's barely been 6 months. There has to be something else going on".

He just shrugged.

"Time periods are subject to change. Like I said, I only brought you here to piss off Louis. You could've stayed home".

"Wait", I said, "you're telling me that I came to California for nothing? I could still be home right now?"

"No, not exactly. I used to check up on you every now and then. I had a friend in the UK that would keep tabs on you for me".

There was pure shock on my face.

"Before you get all scared or whatever, just know that I only did it out of guilt for cheating on you. I wanted to make sure that you were okay".

"Still creepy, but I'll let you continue", I told him.

"I asked around and found out that you were looking for a job. Well, from what I heard, because of your depression that you went into, no one wanted to hire you".

He was lying. That couldn't be true.

"So, I figured that I would help you out...and help myself out a little too. I told them that I would hire you if it would get you out of the country. Obviously, it did. I thought that if you spent a year here working for me, you would eventually get over Louis, and you'd want to be with me again".

I was scoffing the entire time that he was talking.

"Yeah, that was never going to happen".

"I realized that about 2 months in", he nodded, "you were so in love with Louis, and I knew nothing would change that. So, I actually starting paying attention to your work. Like I said, you're good at what you do. So, I recommended for a job back home. You got it".

"I don't know whether to be flattered or frightened", I told him.

He smirked and rolled his eyes.

"Be flattered. I've never put this much energy into one girl, especially one that didn't want me. Even though sometimes I think you still do".

This time, it was my turn to roll my eyes.

"Well, I guess thank you for the opportunity. No thank you for stalking me".

"I wasn't stalking you", he said, "but consider yourself free. I will leave you alone".

"Really? You won't bother me anymore?"

"Well, if you're ever in California, feel free to stop by. But, no. I won't bother you anymore".

Sighing, I walked to the door.

"Cam, I can honestly say, it hasn't been completely terrible working for you".

He blushed.

"That's all I ask for. It's been a pleasure with you being here. I've missed you".

To my surprise, he closed the distance and hugged me. It took me a minute, but I wrapped my arms around him. He finally pulled away and cleared his throat.

"One more thing, Kay", he said, "if you don't end up with Louis, which I don't think you will, end up with someone who makes you happy. At the very least, you deserve that".
